Smitty's Rotora Big Brake upgrade
Okay Guys well I finally broke away from the extremely busy work schedule and got the Rotora Big brake Kit on the car.
I need to thank Jens for his insight on the bum pedal.( more on that below)
I needed a 3mm Spacer for my AFTERMARKET SSR GT3's and I test fit and ran the STOCK 17inch 2003 Rim and it worked perfectly with a 5mm spacer... So The Final answer to all the guys asking about if this set-up will work on your car with the stock rims.. YES it will... (4) 5mm spacers.. one on each wheel..
I painted the rear calipers with the GT2 paint from the tire rack..
, they came out perfect.
In all I replaced the front and rear pads, rotors, SS lines and used Castrol GTLMA Dot 4 fluid...
I tired a power bleeder that another member prescribed to me and I must say that I was very disappointed with it.. The link is below to that thread.. I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS POWER BLEEDER...NOT a GOOD BRAKE BLEEDER
Enjoy the pics... I got about 50 miles on so far, so I have not really tested the brakes, but it feels very simular to the stock pedal feel... I was very pleased with the stock feel.. but we shall see as I put more miles on..

$ Go find Dean Baty (DeansblackCLS), he is drawing up a COMPLETE package for you guys... I think someone where around 1500 for everything shipped for you guys...
Hobo, I see the pictures just fine... I just moved them to another folder so try again..

I got X's too on the last 2
$1500.... better be a serious decrease in stopping distance. Although rotors that won't warp all the time like the stock ones are priceless.... i'm on my 3rd set.

i was riding on 3mm spacers for 4 months waiting for new rims to arrive from japan (long story). the 3mm spacers i had were of low grade aluminum and i wasn't too comfortable/confident driving around in them. its rate-of-expansion would be much different from the rims/hub and in my mind, felt it was an unnecessary variable/risk in the whole equation.
with that said, 4 months of 3mm spacers and nothing ever went wrong. so i hope my fears were unfounded. the rotora looks good on the car. very nice.

spacer is just a piece of aluminum of a certain thickness that is sandwiched between the rim -> spacer <- hub/rotor-hat.
back in the "old-school" days, people use to ride on massive spacers to cause their wheels to stick out of the wheel well. naturally, there's only a limit to the thickness of a spacer to use, unless you upgrade the lug-bolts as well.
pushing the insde of the rims out will allow the spokes to be farther from the rotor/caliper. MOST rims will require spacers if you choose to get big brake kits that have the 4+ pot calipers.

The setup looks AWESOME Smitty, but I just can’t justify spending the money to do this myself.
Upgrades & custom modifications are one thing, but it’s a shame we have to spend money like this to fix Acura’s undersized braking system.

So you changed the front and rear roters and the front calipers and kept the stock rears?? Looken very nice there...onve my brakes go out I will look into something along these lines. What didnt you get x drilled for the rear to smitty??

Smitty! wow ..... bout time......does your wheels ever get dirty? they look clean inside out...anyways, nice looking brakes , I still haven't decided yet about my Rotora's...... any one interested now? I have a set that might be going up for sale...

I recommend you guys look into new rotors and pads if your not looking to upgrade the calipers to Rotora or Wilwood... If I had to do it all over again... I would of spent the 1750 and got the Wilwoods..(just because I wanted BLACK calipers and Rotora is a bunch of asshats that only offer red or blue..)... I'll fix them jack asses when i take them off the car this winter and send the fronts and rears to get powdercoated BLACK.. and I will put the lettering.. "S M I T T Y" or "CL Type -S"on them....
As for the rears not being cross drilled...ummm, it is not necessary but it would of looked alot better in my mind.. But you guys know how that goes, no sense in bitchin over spilled milk.. I am not happy with all the crap I had to go through to get the braking system, spacers and removing the damn 2 screws that held the rotors on... But I am happy I got it done and I don't need to worry about Acura's shitty braking problems in my future.
I got the front and rear rotors with 8K miles on them, if someone wants to make me an offer, i will be more than happy to unload them...Just PM me..

Can you resurface x drilled or slotted rotors?? Like when your pads wear out and they want to turn them a little for the new pads??

my first set of rims were +40 but needed a 3mm spacer to clear. my 2nd set of rims were +45 and i had no problems clearing. (rims got stolen...
) and now my 3rd and hopefully last set are +40 and clears just a wee-bit more than the +45. it's more of the style of wheel for the most part.

Looks good Smitty. Sorry that the power bleeder didn't work out for you. I guess that the universal attachment (w/ J-hooks) is alot differnet then the one for german cars.
