That's a pretty ridiculous comment ....I learned to drive when the speed limit was considerably higher than it is today (except in really isolated areas - can you say Nebraska).
No one has the right to be an asshole on the road, whether they're driving 55 in the LH lane or tailgating so close that the person in front of you can't see your headlights. Being a jerk behind the wheel is not limited to people of any age group either. All age groups have their share of idiots. I had a 17 year old boy run my Blazer into the ditch yesterday - he said he didn't see the "RED" light. Interestingly enough he passed someone by moving to the RH lane who was at a complete stop and then running the light!
BTW: one thing that is being completely overlooked is that 55MPH is the speed limit according the originator of the thread. I'm not arguing whether it's too low or not but if you're driving beyond that then you are driving illegally, PERIOD.
Driving fast is NOT the same thing as being a good driver (neither is driving stupidly slow).

On the subject at hand however... Here in CO, police will actually target people driving in the left lane consistently and not passing peole. They will ticket you if you do so. They are cracking down on it.
Regarding the remark earlier about "perfectly legal to drive in the left lane if you are going the speed limit": That is incorrect in this state. If caught, you WILL get a ticket, it is in fact ILLEGAL here.

Hold on a second.....you mean to tell me that if I'm in the LH lane I'm expected to drive above the speed LIMIT? That just doesn't make sense. Why do they call it a LIMIT then? I lived in Colo for a LONG, LONG time (born there, went to Castle Rock Jr. H.S. and C.R. H.S., attended Colo. School of Mines, etc., etc.) and I never heard that. So, it's actually documented that a person can drive above the speed LIMIT and the Police will be OK with it as long as they are in the LH lane? I'll try that next time I visit my brother who lives in Denver or going down I-25 to see my sister in Pueblo.
