Slight engine knock normal ??

Hey guys....Is a slight engine knock acceptable with hard acceleration??? only happens after some stop & go driving (engine slightly warmer than "normal") when it happens it occurs at the lowest RPMs at the beginning of each gear range. Thanks

No, you should not have any knock at all. Are you sure it is engine knock??

I agree! Knock is not normal. Remember there is a "Premium fuel only" sticker on the inside of the gas flap. If you are burning 87 octane it could lead to a knock under hard acceleration.

Even with 87 octane you won't get knock for more than a few milleseconds... the Knock Sensor will pull back enough timing for that.

Sure you don't have a head gasket leak or something?

Knock is not normal. It is bad... just use premium gas, and if you're still getting it then you have a problem... is probably something else.

I have no idea what a "knock" feels, or sounds like...

Maybe you had a bad tank of gas. You want to refill it when it is less than half a tank. Go to another gas stations to refill it,

always use either Mobil 93 or Amaco93 but here in NYC Im always wondering if these dealers are messin' with the gas....sounds paranoid but....today I really got a chance to WOT and it actually isnt a "knock" in the '93 Ford Taurus sense....it actually might be the exhaust/engine growl. No flames this is my first real performance car !!!

Me neither. My car has a kind of "clicking" sound, but i dont know if that's normal or not. And i doubt it's a knock. I make sure to use at least 91 octane when i fill, usually it's 92 or 93.

I have the same "knocking" noise. When I take off slowly or the car comes to a complete stop. I asked the dealer and this was at the same time i got my tranny replaced and they told me it might be cause by the tranny problem. So I got the tranny replaced and have the same noise. Im going in for my 15000 soon and I'm going to ask them to check it again.

I will come back with a verdit..

Slight knock sounds like a bunch of marbles in a metal can. It goes from there to the sound of bolts in a can to a banging noise (that's usually followed by a melted piston).
