Skyline coming to U.S. -it's ugly!
Except we'll call it the Infiniti G35. Nissan has broke away from it's traditional look of the Skyline and come up with this disaster.
No more round brake lights, no 2.6 liter in line six, and Japan is in angst.
It is rear wheel drive, 112 inch wheel base, and 184 inches overall. The TL has a 108 inch wheel base and is 192.5 inches overall for a comparison. It will have a 3.5 liter engine rated at 270hp. Transmission can be either manual or manumatic. Infiniti might offer a toroidal continuously variable tranny with a 6-speed function. Weight distribution of 52/48, and the tires are 215/55-17 Bridgestone Regno's. Base price will start just over $30k. Sounds good if it wasn't so ugly.

though on another note, that car looks pretty good.... 270hp/infiniti quality/6-speed...i think they have a good winner...
This is gonna give the TL a run if it is priced right...with good list of options..

The all-new Skyline, launched on June 18, is a radical departure from the outgoing R34 model. Employing a totally new construction and components, the old Skyline package famous for its round tail lights, long rear overhang and inline 6 cylinder engine is gone. The only similarity with the R34 is its concept of aiming for class-topping standards and handling.
Believe it, it's true.

I'm sorry but I don't believe that is the new skyline. if Infinity introduced that as the G-35 it wouldn't get nearly as much attention as if they skyline. I mean...I don't know for sure... but in Skyline is like Japanese for Corvette in the states or 911 in Germany. there is no way they will replace the skyline with that. the stats do look pretty damn good though as compatition for the TL. Also, do you really think that Nissan will replace a 80 thousand dollar car with a 30 thousand dollar one? like I said I don't know anything for sure, this is my opinion so don't call me stupid or anything. I think it's a pretty legit opinion though

Hey it isn't all that bad, it's got a front face kind of like the Lexus SC430, and a side profile kind of like a GS430. It's not drop dead gorgeous, but not bad with the packege named above for around 30K.
Maybe not worthy of the SkyLine badge, but a good G20 replacement and a definate TL-S contender.
to each his own :o

The old Skyline and Skyline GT-R are being split with this latest version into the Skyline (the car pictured) and the GT-R (a supercar to be seen at a later time that may or may not be coming to the US.)
The Skyline name has traditionally been a family cruiser with a supercar sharing its name. The name actually comes from the car company Skyline that Nissan bought in the 50s or 60s.
Anyway, to say Japan is agast about this new car is not exactly correct. They are selling at about 3 times the original expectation (and they cannot keep up with the demand currently.)

One thing you guys are missing is that the Skyline has always been a mid-sized rear-wheel drive semi-luxury coupe/sedan that bordered on the sedate.
Yup. Like the 325i relative to the M3 or the Mustang V6 relative to the Cobra R, the plain Skyline is worlds apart from the Skyline GT-R that you guys have come to associate with that name.
This is the replacement for the Skyline. It is not intended to capture the market niche of the Skyline GT-R. It does, however, offer a glimpse of what a possible Skyline GT-R will be based on, and probably share some design cues.
Understand that the Skyline GT-R is a specialty car that sells in very low volume at low profit for what it costs to bring the car to the North American market, aka an image car (NSX, RX-7, 300ZX, Supra, 3000GT). Also understand that sedans such as the Lexus GS300/GS400 and the BMW 530i/540i sell in high volume at healthy profits. Nissan would be insane to break into the ridiculously fickle North American specialty car market in its current financial state.
(Ah damn, the guy above beat me to it. :p)

front looks fine, but the rear end is ugly. What is it with Nissan? EVERY single vehicle they make has an either interesting or acceptable front end and a butt ugly rear end!!

IMO, it really looks to me that the company is trying to unify what it sells world-wide. OH, BTW, I'll be in Japan next spring so I will DEFINITELY keep my eyes glued to all the new cars there. BUT I still love the R34-R33 skyline GTR's the best....they simply exude a special quality that says "go ahead, make my day"

Everyone: I am looking at the latest copy of Automobile Magazine and I quote:
"When the G35 arrives here next spring, it will precede, by a few months, the Japanese release of a Skyline GT-R coupe. The GT-R won't be a simple two-door reskinning of the Skyline GT sedan, however. As befits a supercoupe, the GT-R will look far more aggressive than the GT sedan, retaining the round headlights that have become a GT-R signature. And this new mega-Skyline will hew to the current car's twin-turbo V6, all-wheel-drive, road-mauling formula.
According to sources, an American version of the GT-R has roughly a fifty-fifty chance of materializing. If it does, the federalized GT-R likely will use the 4.5-liter V8 from the Infinity Q45. Supposedly, this would be at least a $50,000 car. The question Infinity is wrestling with is whether a $50,000 GT-R would seem credible to well-heeled buyers with Mercedes-Benz CLK430s on the brain.
So, there still will be a "real" Skyline GT-R. And, maybe, even an American version.
So, who's got the $50Gs handy?? :p
