Simple addition to the stock system?

I want a very simple yet decent quality addition to the stock system to add some bass. I don't want to take up a bunch of room in the trunk either. I was thinking about a 10" bass tube and an amp.

Can you make a recommendation as to what products to buy and what a decent price is on those products. Also, please describe what these products can do because I'm new to this type of stuff. If there are places online to purchase from, could you post links?

Spiroh...

You seem to be the audio expert on the board at the moment so your input would be appreciated. ANyone else, feel free to post your thoughts as well.

NOVAWhiteTypeS's got a little 10" sub in a box in his trunk. Hardly loses any room with that little thumper. Bass is aight too.

Then again, I have a friend with a 12" Kicker Solobaric on a 600W Alpine amp that'll shake the shit outta ya....

Are you looking for sound quality? Is price an issue? do you have an amp already? The sub I went with is the a/d/s 312rs. in a 1.25cu ft box sealed. They are known to have great SQ, and get loud when needed. If you are really on a budget, you can go with an Image Dynamics IDQ 12. Very good SQ and $50 less then the a/d/s. I rather go with 1 12, then a 10. I had 2 10, and I liked the sound better from my 1 12 believe it or not.

I'd much rather get something that will last and gives good SQ then save a few bucks. Where can I find this 12" sub that you are talking about?

I don't have an amp yet so I'll need one of those too. What would you recommend?

Look here to see the sub and specs.

http://adst.com/pages/312rs.html

The 2 amps I recommend for this Sub are the Hifonics Z600, or the JBL 600.1. The Hifonics is a little cheaper but needs to have a LOC installed. The JBL is a class d amp, and you can use High level inputs with it. Another good feature of the JBL amp is it doesn need to be connected to the power antenna. It closes off automatically when it doesnt sense sound. I have a JBL 1200.1 which is definately overkill for that sub. I have to watch my gains. Both are great amps, and you will have great SQ, and great SPL if you need it. I got my sub for $175 shipped. Ive seen the Hifonics amp go for $220, and the JBL for $265-$300.

Where did you get your sub for $175? What about the box for the sub?

I got my sub through this guy.andy4879@earthlink.net He was selling the a/d/s on ebay. I emailed him because I only wanted one, and he quoted me 175 shipped. The box I made on my own. The recommended enclosure for that sub is 1.25 with a pound of polyfill.

That's getting a little too complex for me. I'd really like to buy the box pre-made somewhere. How much would it cost to have someone custom build a box for me? So, what would you say the total out of pocket expense for this setup (the ads 312rs and the JBL600.1 w/ box and a self install based on instructions from this board) cost me?
