Is this a sign of tranny failure

i notice that I am having to downshift a lot during trips especially when I am on I-70 I-76 (hilly and curvy road).

>> The car just seems to be out of power when ascending the incline but on t he down hill its like very fast (obviously).

>> I feel like the torque converter kicks in very quickly .

now lastly i dont know if this related but I have noticed a sudden change in the exhaust NOTE for about 2 - 3 secs most of the time in between 65- 80mph in the same gear.
This happens : without hitting the gas/pedal accelerator any further than previous (i.e same pressure). & The Rev stays the same but the exhaust notes changes... its kinda difficult to explain unless u experience it. ( this change is what u would expect when switching gears to a higher gear say frm 4 - 5, but the only diffrence is this happens when the car is already in gear 5 and without additional pressure on the gas pedal and without an increase in the RPM tach)

can sb explain this ? or has anyone experienced this ??

Thanks in advance.

if the noise came with change in rpm i'd say culprit is transmission somewhere.

but yea if it's just a noise coming and going it's most likely a blockage of some sort.

or an intermittent exhaust leak which is kinda rare but possible.

does it sound like a g35 kinda?? mine did that and it was an exhaust leak where the can meets the exhaust piping..

the hole that creates the leak will change notes of the exhaust at CERTAIN rpms and with respect to load on the motor..

i am leaning on exhaust leak bro..

thannks bro,
I thought it was a leak in the exhaust initially and took it to an exhaust shop.\

They covered the exhaust and anticipated the smoke to come out of the leaking holes a but no smoke came out so he said it was NOT the exhaust.

I need to have sm one clean out the EGR port , any idea or guesstimate of how much a professional cleaning of the EGR port will cost.
