side rear view mirror cracked!

I was putting my car in reverse tonight and I saw what looked like a crack in my passenger side rear view mirror when it went to point down. I thought maybe it was a smudge mark from some dirt or something, but when I ran my finger across it, it was definitely a crack.

Has this ever happen to anyone else? I have had the side mirror defrosters on most of the time because it has been so snowy, wet, and damn cold. I'm thinking maybe it's the temperature difference that has made the glass expand too rapidly...

This should be covered under warranty, correct?

Chikai did you ever use that mirror to check yourself out cause if you have that would explain a lot. or maybe your girl used it to check her makeup thats who I would blame it on if I were you

I’m guessing ICE caused the problem.
I have my “Auto tilt” feature disabled because of this fear.
One day a few weeks ago I was backing up and I heard a “POP” as the mirror was angling down.
What happened was there was ICE on the mirror especially in the gap on the lower portion when it attempted to tilt down.
It didn’t break, but it didn’t sound good either.

My mirror tilt feature is OFF until the cold weather is gone.

Yeah, the auto tilt feature is nice, but you gotta watch if there is any frozen stuff around that mirror. Won't take much to put a stress on the glass and crack it.

hmmm....it's not like I can predict when that it's frozen or not...and I can't help it if I need to go in reverse.

So the question remains... should this be covered under warranty?

Doubt it... I'd guess it'd be treated like a cracked windshield by a rock. Not a manufacturer defect.

Try to get them to fix under the warranty. It's totally foreseeable to me that ice would form on the window. Therefore Acura should have some info in the owner's maual warning you not to use it in cold weather. I think it worked as designed and is therefore a defective design.

yeah...that's what I was thinking. It's not like there was a warning sticker that says "don't put your car in reverse" or "disable auto-down side mirror" in cold weather.

regardless..I'm going in tomorrow and see what they say
