It's from a Toyota dealer up here in WI. Salesman said the tranny recall was "fixed" back when the car had 25k miles. So that means the transmission has lasted 111k miles (well, unless the owner lied by saying that the tranny was never replaced). They are asking $11,500 (it's an '01), so it's tempting. But i don't want to always be worrying about the transmission.
I've been scared away by the transmission problems forum...but let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Yep, your taking a huge risk because after 100k miles, the tranny is not covered under warranty, and if it has never been replaced, you have a pretty old tranny that could go out at any time. Plus thats a really expensive cl-s.

Wow those were some quick responses. Thanks for the info. I know i shouldn't buy it, but I just needed someone to tell me that i shouldn't Now i have to call the salesman back and try to wiggle my way out of this. I should never have given him my number...
Thanks again

There are a two 2003 six speeds in the black market both around the $14-$15k with higher miles like you are looking at.. I'd spend a little extra and get away from the auto tranny problems..

Uhh, negative, I bought my car for $11,000 with 50,000 miles on it. But then again I got a really good deal on mine, but thats not worth it at all, you'll probably end up with tranny problems and your not covered under warranty.

If the price is right but make sure you get a good warranty... that is if there's a company that will warranty a car over 100K (I don't think there's one ) I love my CL-S but a new Tranny is pretty expensive so

I think this is just the start of the trend of low priced 6spds. As the cars get older (with higher mileage) there will be more of them at affordable prices.

thanks everyone! definitely not geting an auto CL. possibly looking at a dropped '03 Mazda MP5 w/ polished engine parts, very nice system, custom painted rims, and so on. 55k miles for $12k. Would be a good reliable daily driver w/ a little bit of style.

Don't do it!
Too much risk, and the trannies are known to break down unexpectedly, time after time.
Unless you like paying 11 G's for a ticking timebomb, stay away.
Save up a few more pennies and get one that's around 50K miles so you still have a lot of warranty left.
Better yet, save up even more pennies and get an 03 CL-S6.
