I called a call from Neuspeed also. It's $49.99. But he didn't mention anything about the new design.

Well .... knowing how shy you guys are when it comes to talking on the phone .... I just called Neuspeed and spoke to Armel. I told him that I had spoke to Shawn back on the 24th of June, and when I asked Shawn about some issues members were having with needing to trim their plastic I recall Shawn speaking to somebody offline and mentioning they hadn't heard of anybody complaining about the issue. I mentioned to Armel that I had not yet installed my short shifter as I hadn't warmed to the idea of having to trim parts of the car to make it fit and could I exchange it for the new and improved model? He said definitely! I asked him what I needed to do, and he told me to ship it back to Neuspeed, attn: warranty, and include a short note explaining why I was returning ( mentioning the new adaptor that does fit without any extra trimming ). I then asked for a name that I could use as a reference, and he told me his name was Armel.
That's ARMEL in case you guys didn't pick up on it.

you're welcome

since nobody else will probably call as a means of confirming what I just posted (or else they will call and take all the credit) ... I'm going to call again tomorrow or Monday and hopefully get somebody else and see if the story is the same. If two people from there say the same thing, then I'll send mine back. I'm not about to send it back on faith, especially with some of the problems some have experienced with getting the parts to begin with (re: Zapata's empty box). Come on, somebody ... follow my lead and let's get confirmation of this from multiple sources. Hopefully Armel isn't the only one answering the phone tonight!!!!!

old part no was 66.20.38 (don't know if this is new part no or not, but I didn't make any ref to it, I just started by asking about the new short shifter and then transitioned to my June 24th order and the problems with fitment blah blah blah)

believe I used option 2 (tech support)

tks for stepping up Carl

Oh O... doesn't sound good.... Armel the hotdog guy..hehe... told me that they are going to discuss what they are going to do and call me back... I told him I want the new part shipped to me and then I will send the old one back to him.. I am not tearing it apart twice... so he said they are going to sit down with the engineers and discuss it this week.. He will call back with a solution...

He asked if I had a rubbing issue and I told him I needed to trim the plastic piece on the shifter boot.. I EXPRESSED that if I ever sell the short throw shifter I want my customer to HAVE THE CORRECT PART... so he agreed, and i will wait for his call back within a week..

read the warranty ... believe this will happen, cuz it states on their warranty page: "Neuspeed Brake Lines, Billet Accessories, camshafts, ...., Short Shift Kits, Spark Plug Wires, ...: 2-year warranty against workmanship or material defects." And at the top of the page: "Warranty returns = a brand new item that has an imperfection which makes it impossible to sell, or a used item returned to us because it is defective." I have no doubt that this falls into the category of workmanship, and based on the way they reacted to me, I think this is the way they will react ... they just have to get their act together if the previous post about only having 50 is true (but If it is this is just probably the first batch).
Stands to reason that since they have re-designed this thing, they have listened to the feedback, and have probably proven as much themselves, so we have nothing to worry about. just my .02

Armel= asshole!!!!!!!!

Guy's , I just got of the phone with Armel,
RE: neuspeed short shifter

I ask him why he never gave me the update on the short shifter..I also ask him if he recall 5 or 6 months ago when we had this conversation about the shifter fitment. ...(he replied NO) so anyways when I spoke with him a while ago he told me that they were doing a R&D on another 6spd... and that he will get back in touch with me with an answer. So today I decide to give this non reliable Dick another call. he told me that he donot remember talking to me and he had only had 2 complaint with this neuspeed short shifter kit for our cars. (I said Bullshit!!!) and I was the second customer who had as issue with the SS kit.. HUM...... he also mention that he sold over 100 of these kits with no problem. So I ask him why the hell did Neuspeed redisign this kit for? obvioulsythey didn't do this shit for 2 compliants. Then I ask him what is he or Neuspeed going to do for us guys' that already have it install in our cars, he told me he again will get back with me with an answer.. also He mention that he was not even sure if the new one's will fix the console problem( pop up)
Overall this conversation was bullshit again... so I hope we-6spe'er who have the kit install can come up with a solution.

this dude was a total dick!!!

Can I ask why you guys bought thye shifter? I would think the stock shifter is short enough. Even with the trimming did the SS improve the shifting at all?

Just received a call from Neuspeed ...

Gentlemen ...

Just received a call from Joseph, the Head Regional Sales Manager for Neuspeed (believe he has the Western Region along with Canada etc) and he asked if he could explain to me what is going on with this 'newer' Short Shift Kit - and I will attempt to pass on the information for your general consumption. 1st, there is a newer Short Shift Kit that will replace the original unit that a group of us purchased back in the June timeframe. There is a 'minor' difference to this unit over the original which was designed to hopefully address the rubbing issue where it comes in contact with the shift trim ring that some (most?) have commented about on the forum . The difference is the relocation of the hole into which the shift cable is affixed, but this relocation is minimal - believe the figure he quoted was around 23/1000ths of an inch (but I might not have heard that correctly). The overall result of this relocation of the hole is two-fold: 1) It is expected/hoped/etc that the new position of the hole will address around 70% of the problems that some/many would have wrt any adjustments to the plastic trim ring, and if there are any out there who still need to deal with this issue, the amount of trimming necessary is expected to be minimal ... 2) The overall effect of of this relocation will result in a slight increase in the length of the throw (when compared to the earlier unit), but still a reduction in the overall length of the throw when compared to stock. So, in other words ... they hope that the need to trim will be alleviated, but this is not a 100% guarantee ... it's hard to know how many people who are not a part of this forum purchased these units and had/had no problems with the install (you guys do tend to be a vocal group). However if trimming is necessary the amount of trimming (which based on your earliers posts addressing the subject seems to vary from person to person) is expected to be less severe.
Now, for those who have already installed the earlier production unit, if you were to want to exchange that kit for this newer unit, you will obviously have no problems with any rubbing because you have already taken care of whatever trimming that "might" be necessary. However, as stated before, you may experience slightly longer throws than you currently enjoy, but again shorter than stock. Is there anybody who has already installed the first unit who would notice the difference? Since it is sooo small (as Joseph relates) I would doubt it, but I won't profess to know how sensitive you all are to your sticks .
I hope that this information has been useful - but I can already feel the flames fireing up. Basically, I guess you have to decide whether or not you believe the findings/feelings/results reported by those who have already installed the kits and decide if you think it will get you into the 12's or not. Or you can be realistic and read the information above and make a learned decision based on the facts presented.

Question
I read the install PDF on the website. You have to drill a hole. We can change back to the stock setup correct? Will this hole that was drilled affect the peformance of the stock setup?

After following along this entire story I’m glad I decided to wait out this MOD.
It’s looking a lot better watching from the sidelines then actually playing the game.

With my MOMO knob the shift throw is slightly shortened and I have no desire to rip the linkage apart for such a minor difference.
Plus, after nearly two years of driving I’m quite used to the way it works.

civic ... since you have no idea how short the throw actually is (based on experience) for the June supply, don't think you can fairly characterize this unit as having "longer throw"s ... re-read what I passed along ... the difference is so minimal that it probably wouldn't be recognized by those with the current unit installed, but for those who haven't received one yet (old or newer unit) the throws will still be shorter than the stock set-up ... unless you have a voodoo knob or something similiar, which people seem to like as much.

fuzzy ... suggest you ask Slimey since he is the only person who posted that he returned his SSK back in late June. he should be able to answer your question.

Titand19 ... that's basically the message I tried to convey towards the end of my post yesterday .... if you've already installed the one some of us purchased back in June, and have made the necessary adjustments to the trim ring to accomodate, there will be nothing gained from trying to replace it with the new unit as any trimming (if necessary) will have already been done, but there will be (according to Neuspeed) that probably immeasurable longer throw because of the very slight relocation of the hole for the cable linkage. Only real issue now is whether people want to purchase or not, but at least if they read my thread (based on the call I received from Neuspeed yesterday) there shouldn't be any surprises. it's now up to how much people trust what others have posted on this site about the unit (started back in June) and whether or not they care to indulge (like most things posted on the site).

Well, I just got mine installed and ...

IT STILL RUBS!

I guess Neuspeed's modification didn't take care of the problem. I didn't have a previous version of the part, so I don't know if the new one is any better with respect to rubbing. I guess I'll get the dremel out.
