Short Race with 02 Maxima

Driving back from a offsite meeting at work today, this gray 2002 Maxima flew by me. I didn't feel like playing, so I just kept going the same speed. About a 1/4 mile up, he was stopped at a light, and the lane next to him was empty. I was not sure if he wanted to race, so I started at about 1/2 throttle and he started taking off. I started at his back wheel and at about 65 when I shut it down, I gained where his front bumper was a little by my back wheel.

I think it was an auto from the way he pulled away.

Overall, I was pretty impressed. My car was feeling really sluggish today (warm and humid out at the time - and coming back from a 85 mile trip), but losing to my modded CL-S by only about a car or so to 65 isn't bad at all

It was a 2002 Maxima.

Silver tail-lights, new headlights, new grille, new rims. I own a Maxima, so I know the difference between the years.

Strange thing was I raced my co-workers G35 and I beat it by more. I wonder if it was the weather

Dude.. Seriously. Who are you and what do you drive?

The G35 race was posted a while back. He is a co-worker of mine. We raced a few times. It was broken in (had over 4k miles on it). We tried racing from a roll, as well as from a stop.

BTW, I am NOT stock. I have Headers and Intake. Approx a 30 hp increase. I run about a 14.4-14.5 in the 1/4. (Faster than a stock G35)

Please stop doubting. I never post false stories.

BTW, if you are a Maxima owner, I was giving props to the Maxima

Never doubt the Maxima... ;)

We're passing you guys regularly on the highways and biways...
heck, we'll even pass you in your own driveways...

My old man has a CL-S, and we have yet to race. I'm itching to see what he's got though. I'm a 98 SE 5spd Max with hybrid intake. It's go fast, but not super fast... yet.

Mike

p.s. thanks for the respect. Makes enjoying our cars that much more fun if we're not hating.

Well, let's compare:

1998 Maxima SE: 190hp 3.0L V6, 3000lbs.
2001 CL-S: 260hp, 3400lbs.

Stock the CL-S runs 0-60 in a little under 6.5s and the 1/4 mile in 14.9

What are the specs on your max?

as far as the specs on my Max, I'm not sure. THere is no dyno around here, and given that I've only started modding in the past year, and got the car last Feb (1.5 yrs), I have yet to get to the race track (I'm going to try and get there sometime in the near future - right now I need a new clutch, dangit).

I would assume that since those #s are somewhat inflated for a Max, that it would be somewhat less than 190HP, but with my hybrid intake I'm not sure how far off. Either way, it seems faster than the CL, but likely only off the line. Once we get going, it might take me.
I'm also riding on 18" MIlle Miglia Evos with 235/40/18 Kumhos (not the lightest tire around), and have the spare in the trunk along with a 50lb sub. I'm sure that me being 260lbs doesn't speed the car up either lol.

It would be fun to race my old man, just to see how the cars compared.

Mike

may seem faster but thats probably because the cl has a nicer ride quality.... "seems" doesnt win races

if your father is a decent driver it will be fun for him but probably not for you.

Let us know how the race turns out and good luck finding all of the information you need on the CL... your definetly in the right place.

Bling Blings aren't going to help that Max out any at all, I'm sure whatever gain the intake is giving you the wheels are taking it away. I'd bet you'd run about a mid-15 in it and your pops CL will walk you pretty good. I'm not hating either, just being realistic. I do have respect for Maxima's.....I ran a kid with a 96 5-speed and he was pretty well modded, I was only able to put about 2 cars on him from 0-100. That's not too bad for him.

Yup, that's me. How did the race look on the video? I was asking him if there was any way he could get it online but I dont think he ever got it figured out.

If you watched the tape you saw how horrible I got beat on the launch, and a modded GTP against a modded Maxima should not be down a car on the launch. It was all in the RT too because I actually did get a decent launch, I just didn't time the light as well as he did. It was fun and Brian is a really cool guy, I heard he put 1 too many NOS blasts through the motor and roached it.

The races look good on video, nice and steady shots, in focus, etc.
He'll get them online eventually. He has vids of my car at the track I want him to post too.

He had an injector freeze up while on the bottle so yeah that motor got toasted. He's got a new motor in it now, he's going SC with that and selling the nitrous.
