shadowline trim (blackout chrome window trim)

with inspiration provided by the new BMW 335is (shadowline trim, blacked out kidneys, black side mirrors), i've done another change to my car. AFAIK it hasn't been done to an ABP yet. and yes, my paint is horrible.

DIY:
1. trimbrite blackout tape (found at Canadian tire for $7 a roll, can be found on amazon.com)
2. put tape on, press out bubbles, cut

blacked out grille and emblem. it's done by tape because i did not want to experience chipping. looks fine from far away

but when you get close, you can see lines of where my tape was. and one piece lifted up, i'll have to fix that eventually.

window trim and mirrors black (i'll get front tint again to make everything nice)

i like it a lot. the side mirrors were not part of the original plan, but they needed to be painted so i just sprayed them myself.

looks good.

Just respray your front bumper and then get a paint correction and your car will look new

So the window trim (which used to be chrome) can be turned to black just by store bought stuff and not paint?

you cant remove the trim from the quarter windows. You have to hold up the rubber edges and get the tape under the edge as you hold it up. This is very hard to get to look good. it will usually look good in pics but when you get close to the car it will look bad, bubbling etc. Also where the car curves you have to use more than 1 piece so you can see the edges of the tape also.

Try www.shadowline-tape.com That is what I used. They carry tape and vinyl. I ordered the tape, because they said it goes around the corners so much easier, and it did. I tried the vinyl a couple years ago and had a lot of problems.

I remember when I did mine, it was such a pain in the a$$.

But I'm glad I did it because it looks so much better IMO.

No peeling on mine yet and it's been over a year now with the Blackout Tape.

^ If I had to do it over, I would just end up paying some one to do it for me...
