sh-awd on a cl

Im just curious if anyone has looked into putting the tl sh-awd system in a cl. Is it possible. I assume it would cost too much for anyone to ever consider just wondering if its technically possible.

Interesting idea...

But the cost, and effort wouldn't be worth it. If you want a coupe with AWD, check out a used BMW 328xi coupe.

it's definitely do able, but too much work.
if u have time and space to do it, it'd be nice.

perfect thing will be to find a SH-AWD that was in a roll over crash.

i am eventually gonna turn my CL into RWD. 2JZ with 240 rear end. But thats way out in future, i dont even know when i'll have time for it. but its definitely on my to do list.

I've seen people taking the awd setup from the Element and putting it on Civic's so I wouldn't say it's impossible. The cost involved in using the SH-AWD on the other hand has a lot of mechanical things going on along with all the software changes needed to make it work.

I would need to win the lotto to invest that much money into my CLS6. I love the car but NOT that much.

you would be better off transplanting the whole drivetrain, motor, and harness probably in order to get it to work. Anything can be done, its just how much money do you want to put into it.

The SH-AWD system, as great as it is, I think is too complicated. Id much rather see a streetable RWD CL.

Keep in mind that the Element has a K series motor and utilizes RT-4WD. Its a different system. Its "less smart" if you prefer.

No electro-nannies pushing torque to one wheel.

Wouldn't the weight severely offset the power also? Our engines aren't too torquey.

I agree with what you all have said, but i still think having the only rwd/awd CL would be pretty nice. I wont do it myself but maybe someone else can.

I think the best way to do it would be to cut the chassis off the both cars and drop the CL body on to it. I know it sounds easy and all. but, do able.

possible. u would need to fab engine mounts and figure out a way to mount the engine longitudinally. unless the new TL's engine is still transverse.

in that case, you will need the engine, tranny, diff for rear and the hub assemblies. its very possible.

maybe you guys should just look at a 01 mdx system (pretty sure it was their test bed for the SH-AWD, honda just had not coined the name yet)

tranny should bolt right up and you proably just need the rear crossmember too, but the biggest issues would be the electronics

I FOUND THE SOLUTION: Lock front wheels, pick up the frame, put the frame back on backwords. Now your a rear engine RWD CL.

Don't forget to remove the rear seats so the engine will fit

also make sure to remove the gas tank before you start cutting and welding, we actually want to see it finished

A very good warranty. I'll wait till the 2.0t has been out a few more years. Dying for the A5 2.0t because after having a B6 6 speed, I already know the potential but man, the maintenance to keep that thing on the road was crazy. Might as well save 100 a month to pay for each new extended warranty lol.
