Which service schedule

do you follow, Normal or Severe? i've been calling around to dealerships and most won't even quote a price for a 30K mile "normal" service. i don't see why i should need a "severe" service. in the past year i've put just under 29K miles. i'd say at least 85% of that was highway (i guess i can only tolerate people who are really far from me). i know there are tranny issues but these don't seem to be the kind of problem that a fluid change would repair. if my tranny does crap out, do u think Acura would deny a warranty replacement because i followed a "normal" schedule and somehow argue that changing the ATF would have correctly torqued that illusive bolt?

Just get the tranny fluid changed. I think its ~$50. I suggest with 29k it would be a good idea. Better to play it safe. The dealers charge too much for maintenance service which is mostly just to inspect/check the car. Just do it yourself or find a local mechanic.

The dealer is always going to push the service department. They make a shit ton of money from the maitenance of the cars. Stick with the normal service.

Yah no shit, I just went over to check prices (will be coming up to 5000 miles next week) for my first service at the dealer and for the 7500 mile service it's $118.
That's Oil change, rotate/balance tires, and "inspect" stuff.

Anyone ever take their CLs to Jiffy Lube for an oil change?!

I don't go to Jiffy Lube because I have had bad experiences with them trying to push a lot of horsesheet my way.
However I do go to a Valvoline place every 5000 miles on the nose.
They change my car's mobil 1 synthetic, change the filter, and check the air filter. They also give me a free touchless car wash that really is touchless. Your car sits in one place and the whole car wash rig moves back and forth.
The other reason I like it is because at the one near me, the service people seem to really like the car.
I didn't catch the whole conversation but I overheard one service guy say to another one "check it out man, this is a Type-S." Now I'm sure he was overstating it, but I like the fact that he cares what he's working on.
Also, they don't mind me hovering around in the bay while they work.

I think all these places are independently operated so it's just a matter of finding one you feel comfortable with.

$0.02 and probably deserves a discount at that

Hey ktgumbo,

Do you mind telling us locals which shop you use? For strip joints, you must be referring to the Rack or the Poodle!

I think we should be doing the tranny fluid change every 15K. Wayne from Park Avenue even said it definetly wouldn't hurt, especially for the aggresive drivers like me.

my cls has about 16000 miles..so far i have its oil change every 3000 miles (use mobil 1 full syn 5W~30W).and tire rotated once and tranny fluid change once...
dealership needs to make money from customer by having them service vehicles ,charge expensive to feed those technicians..so what do u think??
