service manual

hey guys, i'm doing a 6pd type s swap in my '00TL. however the junk yard sent me an engine from a "2002 CL-s" but looking at the engine code near where the starter was, it says j32a1, which is NOT the type s. the guys at the junkyard are trying to tell me that this engine came from a type s and the only difference was the higher compression and different throttle body and i should just use the engine they gave me and upgrade the parts, that's great and all but i paid $950 for a type S engine, i shouldn't have to "upgrade" it.

i was wondering if any of you have the service manual, and would be able to get me the page in chapter 1 that shows the 2002 CL (I have the TL service manual and page 6 shows 2002, base model being j32a1 and type s j32a2) to prove to the guy at the junk yard, that this is NOT a TYPE -s engine...

i prefer not to have to drive 30 mins to an acura dealership for a print out

You can tell from the intake manifold itself. They look quite different.

A more aggressive camshaft, a 2-stage intake manifold, and bigger throttle body are the differences. They must know they're wrong...just ask for your $ back.

Sorry, I don't have the scanning capability to present this information; however, I do have the CL 01-03 Service Manual and the J32A1 designation depicts a '3.2 SOHC VTEC Sequential Multiport Fuel-injected 225 HP engine' with a compression ratio of 9.8.

The J32A2: '3.2 SOHC VTEC Sequential Multiport Fuel-injected 260 HP engine' with a compression ratio of 10.5.

It sounds, much like you expect, that these yard monkeys are trying to F-you over. Hopefully, someone with a scanner can help you out and post up the info.

I found this info. on page 1-3; Paint and Chassis Codes - 2002 Model. Also, page 2-19; Design Specifications in the 3.2CL Service Manual 01-03.

Good luck!

Hope this helps

I believe the upper righthand corner of this page will give you the proof you need. (I purposely left it large so you could print it up with decent quality.)

Good luck!

Make sure you get the engine you paid for. I hate companies that try to do this crap.

Good luck man. They are definately trying to pull a fast one on you. Theres many more differences between them then just the throttle body. And $950 for an A2 is too much anyway.

OHHH make sure u get what u deserve and THEN some. tell them you got friends who are/were thinking of buying engine's from them but after this you're gonna tell them to go elsewhere.

MAKE UP their cars and engines they need. and then the guy who's calling the shots will be like "OK OK i'll fix it asap, my appologies" lol

gotta use that leverage... mmm mmmm luv it

If your invoice says 2003 CL-S engine, then just threaten to sue. They didn't give you what you paid for. Simple.
