Service costs... Need input ASAP please...
Hi.
I'm in the DC Metro/Suburban MD area and I've talked to a very good indi mechanic about doing the timing belt, waterpump, tensioner, tensioner pully, cam & crank seals, a/c belt, PS belt, alt belt, oil change, coolant flush & IK20 plugs tomorrow and it looks to be about $1000.
Seems like a pretty fair price. What do y'all think? I am not up to doing this work myself, so that's not an option. Rosenthal has a good price on the timing belt service ($675), but they don't include the cam & crank seals, the tensioner, the plugs, or the oil change and their price only includes 1 gallon of antifreeze, not a flush and fill.
This is a pretty expensive service considering my wife's Saab 9'5 Aero timing belt service was like $375 or so... Maybe it's just that much easier on a turbo 4cyl car...

A local dealer charges $800.+ just for the timing belts/tensioner/waterpump. It sounds to me like you're getting a good deal. Do you really need the seals done? I guess I'm on the fence as to whether or not you should replace good seals... Anyway, I think you're doing well, and are well inside the high water mark on what all of this could cost.

Thanks for the input. To be honest, he's charging me the cost of the seals ($15 for both), but no add'l labor for replacing them, so that was an easy decision! I'd hate for the seal to have a problem sometime soon and he's got to take all those same parts back off...
Again, thanks. Just needed a reality check.
