SE-R Spec V vs. CL-S

Okay, I know, so what, it's a crappy SE-R, but it's been really dry for any street encounters in my area lately and it's my first encounter since getting my tranny replaced, so I'm sharing. I was approaching the left turn lane to get onto the US-60 last night and I pull up behind a powder blue Spec V with a fart can exhaust. I thought what the hell... so before I could even pull up next to him to see if he'd bite he guns it. I could tell because it sounded like a hundred weed whackers were simultaniously whacking weeds at the same time. Anyway, I floor it and pull on him pretty effortlessly as I imagined, but the two enterance lanes merged into one at the point I started overtaking him, actually just as turned to look at me passing his fender and noticed the silver stickers he had plastered all over it. Anyway, once I let him get merge back in front of me we get on the highway and it was pretty sad how little of an effort it took to leave him many many car lenghts behind. Like I said, not anything I didn't expect, but none the less it was still fun to disappoint him for the night after sending all day applying those stickers to his fender.

Shopping around for a car for my son, we drove an 06 Spec V and quite frankly I think a well driven Civic EX 5MT could give it a good run.

Ehhhh, gotta give the SE-R Spec V a little more credit than that. I checked the numbers and the Spec V is much quicker than the 06 Civic EX. The EX is like 8.3ish 0-60 and 17 + 1/4 mile, while the Spec V is 7.3 0-60 and 15.6 1/4 mile, plus what ever mods he had besides exhaust, which very well could've been nothing. I'm not saying it's a fast car, I'm just saying it'll smoke an EX, lets be realistic.

i don't know why F23A4 said that. he has got to know the difference between the two. especially since he's a hardcore Nissan guy.

There's no way he meant the Si, because obviously that would take the SE-R Spec V no problem. I'm not sure why he said that other than maybe he just wasn't impressed with it, but still number-wise it should leave the EX far far behind it.

tushae, i had a similar run in with one of those lancer fart cans, he like peeled out from a light, about a second later i flushed it and took like 3 car lengths on him but let off cause i had 3 other people in the car.... the lancer guy made an immediate left.....

.....I did not state that the EX would beat the Spec V, hence the 'good run' comment.

That said, my assertion on the Spec V has equally to do with its aged B15 chassis (which has seen competition against 3 generations of Civics) as with its QR25DE powertrain. As such (though), the Spec V's powertrain is/was the most lackluster in its class and I remain unimpressed. (Most mag reviews support this position.)

Hopefully, Nissan will make the 07/08 SE-R something to write home about.
