scion tc or acura cls?

I haven't posted in a while, and I may be leaving the acura cl world for good. The tranny issues with the CL are too much of a question for me. My tranny has been good since i got it a year ago, but lately I have seen increasing flares from shifting between 2nd and 3rd. I can't reproduce for my dealer and I know I'm going to have to wait for this thing to fail in order to get a new tranny, and with a "new" one, there's no guarantee that will give me a solid tranny. I'm like alot of ya'll out there and am thinking of what I can get into with a good reliability, style, and price point.

That brings me to the scion tc. I know it's not as powerful as my CLS, the luxury features aren't there such as the backup side mirror, heated seats, and navigation, but damn it has toyota reliability, and resale value looks really strong. The scion dealer wants to give me 14000 for my 2002 cls with 54000 miles and navi. I've heard worse dealer trade ins. What do you all think? Am I overblowing these fears? I am willing to put aside a bit of power and luxury for peace of mind, of course it's a personal decision, have any of you all made a similar one?

I say sell it and get a CLS-6. That way, the only thing you're losing is the woes of having the automagic transmission.

The tc was one of the cars on my list when I was shopping too. Out of a group of cars I was looking at, it was at the top of the list. Very nice car for the $. But as you said, at the end of the day, it's a cloth seated, 4 banger, econobox, with no major luxuries. Tuff choice when you add in the reliability.

When I stumbled upon the CL-S, the only thing I knew about it was Acura/Honda reliability, resale value, 260hp, and it was fwd. I would have made a different choice if I knew then what I know now.

I'd definately go with the CL. The TC does not come close to the CL in my book.

Right now, I'd take the tC. Kinda tired of the CL

I mean the tC looks nice, it's cheap, seems to be built well, and has unlimited mod-potential.

However, I hear the gearing is way too short and that it really needs a 6th gear; revs way too high in 5th on the highway and thus gas mileage suffers.

Truth be told, my next car will most likely be the Subie Legacy GT

I owned a 98 CL 3.0, Went to the Honda dealer and tried an 06 Civic coupe. Loved the looks of the new coupe, as did my wife. Drove the Civic on a back road with chip & seal pavement. The Civic had a very busy ride, which I should have expected. Bought an 03 CLS instead. Forget the sporty economy cars.

A couple of my work buddies test drove the new Civic SI coupe today. That car must have some shit.

I own a Tc. It's the wife's car. I disagree about the handling. I think a modded CLS still handles better than the Tc. It's a nice car, we really like it, and it's perfect for her. But I'll drive it sometimes, and I'm always really happy when I get back into my CLS. It's a great car for an '06 ~$18k, but I wouldn't trade my 01 CLS for it. Then again, I don't have any problems in the tranny department

stupid edit rules..

anyway.. personally I don't think there is much to consider here. I do not own an 03 type S, but I am in the process of purchasing one, and I have driven many. Tons of power, and good handling.

I have also driven my friends TC. he has since put on a SC, but prior to that, it was nothing to write home about..

With the CL you get luxury, prestige, F'n awesome engine, 6 speed, good handling especially when modified, HIDs, dual exhaust, and a sweet leather cockpit. pick up one with 40k miles for ~18-20k.. will last you forever. The engine should clear 200k easily with zero problems.

With the TC you get nothing but handling and OK power.. long term reliability I'm sure is good too though since it's toyota.

Yeah, the civic is nice, but it's a downgrade from a used CL IMHO...

If you want a brand new car, the civic is a decent choice, but the CL has more room, power, luxury, and exclusiveness...

With the CL prices were they are now, it's tough to beat what they offer.

I used to work at Carmax Toyota and Scion. i drove those things all the time. Not worth the price IMO. Plus they are cheaply made IMO.
