SC Install Completed!
SC Install Completed!
Finally finished! Had to have Comptech do a saturday delivery for the bypass actuator, but the deed is done. Including the wait for parts, I did this over a period of 2 weeks. Actual wrenching time was about 16 hours or so, which sounds like a lot, but this was a used kit, I'm not a full time mechanic, and a lot of things I did twice to get them juussst right.
Biggest hassles:
Tightening the alt pulley - I have no impact tools, and the double pulley is too deep for an offset wrench. After a lot of mickey ducking around, I finally just yanked out the alt and took down to the corner shop for some impact action.
FPR mount - The hole is not nearly as accessible as Comptech would lead you to believe.
Those 4 allen screws on the main bracket - go to the tool store and get a flexible shaft driver with a 5 mm bit, along with some ball end allen wrenches.

The first time I jumped on it, the whine really surprised me - I thought something was wrong! I wasn't especially impressed with the gains, either. Jacked up the FP a bit, changed to a gatorback belt, and it made all the difference in the world!
She puts a smile on your face now!
Guess I better start shopping for radar detectors, this could be dangerous!

I could not have done this without the support from the board - what a fantastic resource!

Your SMR CLS looks just like my 03 6 speed less the fog lights and front license plate. I have the Toyo Proxes 4's as well.
I know what you mean about the allen bolts for the S/C snout bracket, those are a bitch to clamp down, but doable. I usually just drain the radiator and remove the upper hose to get my hand in there for the tightening process; however, I'm definetly going to look into getting some of those 'round head' allen wrenches, LOL.
I just put my S/C unit back on after having the clutch set and throwout bearing replaced on my car (70,000 miles). The stealerhip wanted to charge me an extra $250.00 above the $800 in labor to pull the tranny and replace the clutch. I said, meh, I'll pull the blower, it's no big deal. I got the clutchset with throwout bearing at 'acuracarland' for $300.00 shipped.
The main thing on installation of the S/C is being real careful in not putting to much pressure on the snout where the seal is. Align the Alt bracket, place the allen snout screws, then place the 'Blower brace' on the upper transmission lift barcket. Then torque down all items per the sequence on the Comptech Instructions. It's really cake, especially when it saves you big 'labor' bucks to pull it yourself and IMO, the piece of mind of having installed it yourself correctly.
Needless to say I drove the car around a week with the blower off and the IK22's, FPR and high pressure fuel pump in place without incident. I was a little worried about fouling the plugs and all; but, I guess the ECU adjusted to the absence of the blower just fine
Anyway, enjoy the S/C unit, it will not disappoint. Oh yea, the S/C whine, it's intoxicating.

yes, i believe the supercharger for the 98-02 accord v6 is a direct fit for the tl/cl-p. Just need to modify the elbow from the throttle body i believe.

I would love to hear that whining sound when taking off!!Yeah, its a wonderful sound but I prefer the spooling sound of my turbo.
Congrats on your install. And you did find the key. Ball end allen wrenches does the trick very nicely. The install can also be done without removing the mounting plate. You just remove the cam cover mounting bolts and remove the SC and mounting plate as a unit.
As you have found out, the install is not too complicated as long as you follow the instructions and are very methodical about your install. Installing a used kit probably adds a bit more anxiety to the process not knowing if you have everything but I'm glad you were able to work through everything.
The whine is definitely intoxicating.

It all depends on what you're into and what resources you have available to you.

Red Rider used to hold that title until he traded his SC'ed SMR CL-S in for his Legacy GT. He traded it in at a dealer in Portland. I wonder if there are two SC'ed SMR's running the streets in Portland

I think it's one of those deals where you have to get all the bolts started, and then draw them up.
Fer sure, if I have to yank it, I'll do it your way, but I don't think that'll work on an install...
