Is it safe to drill sub down in trunk above the passenger muffler...whats under there

I have an infinity basslink that I am installing tomorrow or Thursday. The sub has a pair of "feet" that you drill into whatever your mounting it on. Can I use the metal self tapping screws and drill into the metal in the trunk just above the rear muffler. It's the area with that sticky soft stuff(I think sound deadening material) just to the top left of where the spare tires goes. I don't want to drill into something, but if it's just metal I don't mind

that's what I figured, but I can't see what is above the muffler from underneath the car. I don't want to be drilling into a fuel line, gas tank, any electrical wires, etc. Does anyone have a definitive answer? hmmm....

the problem is that in order to install the sub in the corner I have to remove that plastic tray and get a piece of wood custom cut. I don't have a saw.

Another option which I did in my suburban basslink install was to use heavy duty Velcro under the wood to the floor. Then lay the carpet on top like normal then drill into the wood to secure it to the feet. Worked well.

That sounds like the best way! That heavy duty Velcro is no joke, it holds my 60 lbs of sub, box, and amp in the corner of my trunk no problem. I corner hard too! It has never slid out of place. Its not even drilled in. So I think fuzzy has something there.

I think I bought my Velcro at Lowes.

That's where I got it.
On my CLS the basslink is just screwed into the trunk cover (piece that goes over the spare) using some sheet metal screws. It's secure enough to me. Hasn't came loose ever. Even with luggage & PC's or electronics banging into it.

HD velcro ftw. I have two Element enclosures in my trunk and they never move around.

They definately pack a punch for such a small/cheap package.

BTW, anyone interested in one, I've got one for sale in the BM.

There is nothing under there. If you look above your muffler you'll see the trunk floor that the screws will come through. It's completely clear.
