Sad to say goodbye to the CL....

Well, last Saturday my CL was sold--to a good home of a member of this board.

I am awaiting pick-up on Saturday of a 2004 Infiniti G35 6MT coupe, diamond graphite with nav, XM, etc.

I can't lie--I've wanted this car ever since it came out a year after the CL.

And, with the 2005's losing the Brembos and adding a few other things that I didn't care for I figured now was the time.

I intend to keep this car mostly stock, however, with only potential for sways and exhaust and upgraded air filter. The rest will be cosmetic (aluminum pedals from the 2005, perhaps the 2005 steering wheel with orange stiching--hot!). Aside from that the G comes off the line pretty well complete from a performance standpoint.

I'll still regular this site because it is far better than the nissan related sites I have been on so far and there are a lot of quality people here.

Good luck with your G. It's the best looking coupe in it's segment and I love coupes. I looked at them very closely when they came out (auto) and when the 6 speed came out. I do think they are overpriced but they got the look, which is the major attraction of the car and the reason I'd buy it.
have fun with it.

Thanks. I looked at the G35, and Subaru STI. The G35C is a great car. Just needed something more practical. Plus I'll probably avoid a few tickets.

Unhappy

I hope your new car suits you well.

I was sad to see my CL go too, unfortunetly mine will go to the car palace in the sky. I had a bad accident 2 days before Christmas due to some bad weather. I luckily walked away via the drivers window.

Let me know if the links work.

Zamo, don't worry I am sticking around. Waiting for the insurance check for the total loss. I am in the process of getting quotes for an 05 TL. Blue or Green with NAVI. I drove the 04 and I was impressed. For the money, it sure is a quality car and it's 5 out of 5 for safety.

Zapata:

Yes I walked away thank god. Only a nasty head laceration courtesy of the moon roof. I'll tell you, I was happy the doors have those reinforced beams otherwise that steel light pole i broadsided would have sliced me in 2. See below.

You can say that again! But, at least the back seats go down so that might help a bit. I looked at the trunk of my CL after seeing the trunk of the G and it looked like a canyon!

Congrats, I should be picking up my '05 6mt hopefully in February...

How much did you pay for it, new or used?

I was going to get a new '04 6mt, but with the brembo problems and the fact that I could of gotten an '04 for $1000 over invoice or an '05 for $1003 over invoice, the choice was easy......plus the 18hp and interior bump, it was a no brainer.

Here's what I didn't like about the 2005:
1) No Brembos (I haven't heard a single problem with the Brembos except that they are touchy--but what do you expect when you can stop from 60 in 115ft!). There is nothing like seeing those pretty calipers exposed under the wheels!
2) I like both the size (18") and the style of the 2004 wheels better than the 05. 19's are too big for me and the roads.
3) The side bolstering of the 2005 driver's seat was so great that the sides of my legs were actually resting on top of the verticle portion of the seat bolster pushing them down--that would end up being uncomfy and deform the seats over time for me.
4) No automatic seat movement in the 2005 so that passengers can get in the back (like that will ever happen)
5) It is 100-200 pounds heavier than the 2004
6) Drop in engine torque (although this may or may not play out to be a good thing to gain the extra hp--the 2005 is down 10lb-ft but up 18hp. Probably smoother top end.
7) Very difficult to deal on the 2005s and availability issues.
8) A deal I couldn't refuse on the 2004.
9) The fact that buying the 2004 essentially gives me one free year of mileage when I go to sell it b/c it is already one year old (unlike the 2001 CLS that was really a 2000 but for mileage calculations you lost a year)

On the plus side, the 2005 has:
1) Aluminum pedals (which I already ordered)
2) An awesome steering wheel (which I will try to order)
3) 18 more hp (which may be good or bad)
4) I did not notice much difference in the interior in general.
5) Telescopic steering wheel--never had a problem with this before so I assume I'll be OK.

Enjoy!

Enjoy!
I will add to this point, a 2004 car is already 1 year depreciated regardless of mileage (that can account on top of that). If you try to sell it at this point, your car is worth no more than 80~85% of the MSRP value, guarantied.

The proof, try to lease a brand new 2004 and you will see that the the lease company wont deal because the residual already went south. They will only finance 2005s.
