A Sad Day

I finally joined the f-ed up wheel club last night. I cut a corner too close at a local drive thru and severly gouged my left rear wheel. It is horrilbe! Deep gashes on 3 spokes and half way around the lip. It looks way to noticable to ignore.

Not really sure what I should do. I have a few options. Obviously, the dealer gets 299 for a replacement. I found a place on the net that I can get 4 factory chrome wheels for $700 w/ exchange. Or, I can drop some real money and get some after market 18's.

I guess I have some decisions to make. All I know, is I had a very expensive grilled chicken sandwich last night.

Anyone know where I can get a deal on a factory wheel? Besides the dealer?

Sneakypete, ask the dealer if they have any that they took off of a new car and put aftermarket rims on at the dealership. I got a brand new one from just that scenario for $130.

Sorry, I feel your pain. I went to three shops to try to have a valet whacked wheel fixed and was told by all three "allow-wheel-repair-shops" that the fix would not be identical to the "new" wheel.

There are little lathe marks in the wheel that are really hard to put back in the wheel after they weld back in the metal "removed" from the scrape/rub.

The suggestion above about looking around at some more enlightened dealers would be a possible idea.

However, the few times I've been around the dealer with my SSR wheels, I have always been approached by a young guy asking if they could buy my stock rims.

Try leaving a post for on of the members and see if you can pick up a wheel from one of the guys here who is willing to toss their stock wheels.

(Moderators -- I'm not sure what section this is [Black Market, etc]

Suggestion: Add a "Parts Wanted" section to the site.

Good luck

Been there myself. You'll get over it after a while, although every time you look at it it will remind you of your misfortune.

After several phone calls I located a local wheel salvage shop here in Dallas. I ran my car over there today. They told me that they could repair my wheel. Said that they could "re-machine" it for $95 bucks. The guy assured me that it would look good as new. Hopefully it will work out. They had a couple of S wheels, but they looked worse than mine. I'll pick it up tomorrow. It cannot look any worse than it did when I dropped it off.
