S2000 wants to run

He is stock performance wise, I have headers, and intake, and I will have better tires before running....Any guesses on the outcome???

ps -

Yes, he is a good driver

this will be tough, you better get a good launch and it could be close.

I have seen them run at a track and it really depends on the driver....like in a HUGH way.

They are faster than us, but due the lack of low end tq, they are very difficult to launch. I he can drive well, you are screwed.

My reasons

Here is the reason I want to run him--Here is his e-mail after I told him about the 350Z having a mediocre interior ( His next car)

Some of the biggest dumbasses I have ever had the displeasure of reading. What a crock of shit. I think I just lost a few IQ points just by reading that thread. Smug Acura CL-S owners so convinced that their car is "superior" to the 350Z based on interior trim alone. Jackasses...

My reply:

Yes, I agree that most CL-S owners think their cars are superior....But aren't they??? j/k.....I have actually had the pleasure of checking out the 350Z, and Id have to agree that the interior is kinda ummm...gaudy, but that is in no way a reflection of the car as a whole.

If your in the market for a new whip--Gotta go w/ the G35 coupe ( 6-speed of course!)....IMO I think they are pretty slick, except for that ass end...It's a little boxy, but the performance is pretty sweet.

I don't think a single person thinks their CL-S is superior to the 350Z or any car--I think the 350Z is in a completely different class, and the 2 are in no way comparable....Just my $.02

But I would love to meet you at the track for a friendly 1/4 mile race...

Take it easy,

Mike

If he's a good driver, he'll win. Make sure that he gives you the move.
Race him from a 20 mph punch. That will be interesting.

it all depends on how fast you're racing to...
1/4 mile, he can beat you, but much more than that, and you will pass him, and leave it in the dust...

trust me, Soopa and I found this out last week...we raced at top speed pretty much for 65 miles...I could not touch him, by the end, he had to slow down for me to find him he was so far ahead....

oh this was the best part of the night...a dude in a black S2000...sweet...i have pics...bone stock..i go over after i ran a 9.2 he had just got there and this was his first time with that car...i asked what he thought it would do...knowing....i say real cocky hey if you dump it a 6.5K and dont go up in smoke ill bet you could pull a 9.40...his friends start laughing ,ohin', ahhhin' saying this thing 'll do way better than that ...i said "oh ya?" they said ill bet 20$...i laughed...said sure ...they start going how much money do you have to there friends...they came up with 10$ ...he said all night ..i said no right now...he goes I've never run it....i said ok next pass...i do another 9,2 he wont tell me what he ran ,but i say 9.7 he says close...we line up this time to race eachother...i tell them, remember has nothing to do with me winning because that's just a given...all he has to do is pull anything 9.4 i said even a 9.49 is good...

trust me i have yet to see a stock s2k pull off a 9.5 and with headers you can. so go for it

Off the line, he'll kill you, RWD hooks up better than FWD, obviously.

On the interstate, I've beaten a few S2000's, and I have the same mods u have, cept i have toyos.

Depends on the length of the race obviously. If he revs to about 8k and dumps the clutch, then he will get that torque he needs off the line to beat you in a shorter race. But that's a recipe for drivetrain soup. If he gives a shxt about his car and launches from idle rpms, you've got a great chance. Best of luck bro -- REPRESENT!

As stated here... It's all about the way he launches. If he's bold and wants to dump it off the line above 6K RPMS, he'll get ya.... From a roll... Ought to be VERY interesting.

Hmmmm, let me think about this as I have driven a S2000 recently. They're light with the most hp per ci or ltr, but torque sucks at 150 and gears wind forever with a 9000 redline. If you get a great launch with minimal wheel spin and with your mods, you could beat him. However, he could catch you at some point. It would be a tough race. Could come down to the best driver. Try to keep the race to 1/4 mile. 50/50 chance.

What are you guys talking about? A S2000 will pull on a auto CL-S on the highway. They have many advantages; DOCH VTEC, higher revving engine and better gearing. A 6sp CL-S with headers would be a better match.

there is quiet a difference between a cl-S with headers and with out your problem is you have the wrond perspective 2 S2k's at the track wed. and neither broke 9.7 and one didnt break 9.8 when i had headers, intake and tires i ran a 9.4 he doesnt have intake so conservitive 9.6 ...he should win and if the S2 only launches at 2 K then it'll be a murder....

If he's serious then bet $$ cuz you have to launch an s2k @ ~4.0-4.5k rpms to get a decent launch. My friend had one and that was the sweet spot according to him. Has he run his car at the track? Maybe some of the ex-s2k owners can chime in here??

response

This was the S2000's response:

I saw that video and it sure looks like the S2K driver either fell asleep at the launch or he threw the race on purpose. My best guess is he did a nice easy low-rev launch, like I do when pulling from a red light on roosevelt blvd. Doing that gives a 15 plus 1/4. I haven't done it, but the best recorded time slip ever posted online for a stock S2K is 13.6. Supercharged is 12.1. Requires a 6500 rpm clutch drop and perfect track conditions(non FI).

After I get my CAI, exhaust, ECU, vented hood and huge rear wing, then I'll meet you! :-)

always an excuse!!!

I don't know, I have an s2k also..and I've tried dumping the clutch several times from varying RPMs....
every single time I have, I've simply melted the clutch, and not gone anywhere....
but, it is for sure, that a CL-S will eat an s2k at highway speeds and up...

Definitely gonna install it but waiting for my stock transmission to take a dump before I do, since Honda extended the warranty to 100k miles. With the colder weather coming it shouldn't take long. Hehehe
