S/C question

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 6 speed kit (350-064) and the auto kit (350-062)?

Is the horsepower difference quoted by Comptech a function of the different transmissions or the different kits? (+40 for the 5AT, and +57 for the 6MT)

Will the 6 speed kit (350-064) fit the auto model?

I am considering the purchase of a 6 speed kit from another member and I am not sure if it will fit my 5AT.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

im pretty sure it has to do with the transmission, the manual tranny loses less power.

i dont think the 6 speed would fit on our models, i think they're different part #'s from comptechusa.com

I think it has something to do with VSA.

There are difference in the piping. Best thing to do is to ship the Kit to Comptech and they will lay out the kit and make sure all components are there for your application. I think it's around $200-300 for them to go through the kit.

It has nothing at all to do with VSA.

The 6speed makes more power at the wheels because the transmission is much more efficient. There are no internal changes to the kit between the two different part numbers.

Comptech will charge you around $100 to make the kit work on yours.

Thanks MrSteve... Yes, I was aware that the the MT was mote efficient than the AT... I was just surprised at how much HP goes into the ether.

Appreciate the info on the Comptech conversion.

Roughly 15% loss through the 6MT and 25% loss through the 5AT are good percentages to work with.

The differences in the kits do relate to the VSA. 6MT does not use VSA since it utilizes a LSA as compared with an open differential. That may be what drewJ32A2 was referring to. According to Shad, they may charge you around $200-300 to cover parts differences and approx 1 hour labor. When I drove up to have my kit converted, Ryan at Comptech just did it and did not charge me since my kit was still new in box.

I wasn't refering to VSA as the difference in the kits, I was stating that VSA was not the reason for the power loss.

I'm sure Comptech would charge more than $100 to inventory the entire kit and provide the new parts, but I spoke with another member in Maryland that has an auto kit on his 6-Speed and I believe he told me Comptech charged $100 for the other parts.

You can get the lost HP back with the HBP

Good luck with the conversion, or just wait for a good deal on the 5AT.

That would be a good way to get the lost ponies back... but I also recall that you had mentioned the requirement for 95 octane fuel.

I think actually that I will wait for a deal on a S/C kit for the 5AT.... it is just too much hassle to have it converted.

I read a review on the M3 yesterday and it sounds like a very nice car indeed... I am just not convinced that it is worth twice the price of a CLS. I don't know how they do it, but those German engineers manage to get 333HP out of a normally aspirated 3.2L engine.

I figure that I can get pretty close to that (not WHP) by adding the blower.

You don't need 95 octane for the HBP.
