Hmm with a full bottle I might have a chance. There was one with temp tags (brand new) driving like a dick, with this smirk like he was driving a 10 sec ride. Good kill.

lol, maybe his car wasnt broken in. I am in no way saying that you wouldnt have still beaten him, but it might have been a better race if his car was broken in.

Nice kill either way.

at least we don't have to worry about those being quicker than us, in a straight line that is.

Gotta love it that Mazda (Ford's bitch) overrated the hp yet again.

FYI: the 6speed RX8 has 250hp/159lb-ft but the automatic has only 210hp/164lb-ft. Either you raced an automatic model or the dude couldnt drive a 6speed.

wrong there buddy... check out this article.. they overrated the hp on the rx8

http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/mazda5_20030905.htm

"The Hiroshima, Japan-based company initially said the manual-transmission RX-8 produced 247 horsepower and the automatic version 207. It reduced those figures to 238 and 197 because of modifications to meet U.S. emissions rules"

so it actually only at 238 hp for the manual and 197 for the auto. pretty cruddy for a car that is 30k + in price.

RX-8

Automatic
197 @ 7200 rpm
164 @ 5000 rpm

6-Speed
238 @ 8500 rpm
159 @ 5500 rpm

http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/disp...ehicleCode=RX8

i guess thats why the are offering to buy back the car for those who already bought it or giving them a free maintenece contract and $500 dolla check card.

They did the same with the Miata where they would give you a credit card or buy your car back.

They are having major customer-relation problems because they are informing their customers that they must check their oil at every gas fill-up because the good ole Wankel is burning much more oil than they had anticipated.

If you ask me, just put that engine to death already. Barely any of them made it past 70k miles without major work anyways.

the performance numbers are supposedly still accurate despite the hp overrating and the car is supposed to go 0-60 in about 6 seconds i thought...maybe he couldn't drive or was breaking the car in.

The performance most people are getting is way below the Mag #'s. I've been lurking the RX-8 board, and most people are not even able to get below 15's in the 1/4. Best I saw was 14.8. Pulling 170hp to the wheels won't get you 0-60 in 6 seconds.

That's the key, so high power band. You have to redline that bitch to get any power.

Stock rotary and no turbos aren't gonna move this car. I think they can do the "street port" like in the RX7s. But this Wankel is supposed to be more efficient. I'm sure they'll find a way. For now enjoy toasting them.

Nope, that is shown as GVW, so those options you are alluding to are passengers and cargo. Which I guess are fairly popular.

GVW lb. 3,854 3,810

Good to know... I was actually showing one some respect the other day on the highway. This guy was doing only 60 (way too slow in my area) in the left lane with no one in front of him... I wanted to pass him, but weren't sure if I should. By the time I was ready to go for it, he had already taken his exit.

Seen RX8 at Milan with just an ECU run 13.8... Also, the RX8 is balanced 50-50 I think. With a little weight reduction (it's already quite light) I don't see how it wouldn't smoke a CL-s.... Just my opinion though.

I think it needs to be launched at around 7.5K RPMs... most folks don't like to do that!

who has an ecu for the RX-8? I looked everywhere and found no mention of an ECU being out for it yet. The absolute best 1/4 mile time i've seen RX-8's get is 14.5...and that's a perfect run. Most don't dip below 15's. Maybe the guy was spraying?

I read in Honda-Tech a kill story at the track where a stock rx-8 6spd lost to an rsx-s with onlyCAI! And the worst part was that the rx-8 had a better 60' time! The rx-8 doesn't sound too impressive.

Hmm... I don't know. He just said ECU, I believed him. 14.5 out of a stock RX8? Or a modded one? Because I don't see CL-s bone stock 6-MT get 14.5 that often either... more likely high 14's.... No?

Low-Mid 14's to Mid-High 14's with the median be about a 14.5 - 14.6.

Yeah to get mag times with that car you gotta waste the clutch on launches, ala S2000.

HEY FUCKER!!!

170hp is pretty fuckin' good for a '99 2.3CL with less than $500.00 in performance mods. (154hp stock for F23 engine).

Let's not forget that EVERYONE on here isn't running a '00-'03 CLS 6cyl...
A little respect, please.
