Running without mufflers...

I messed up my car and I might have to run without mufflers on for a few days.

I won't be touching anything else; just the mufflers. What do you guys think it'll sound like? Has anyone tried it?

Get some noise cancelling headsets.

If the whole system is removed -- no resonator, no muffler, expect some tickets if you go above idle.

I can only recall the times I tried this on my 4-banger and when a crappy weld came loose and dropped the glass pack hanging off the header, it sounded like I could be heard from 10-miles away. Oncoming traffic actually stopped in the Sepulveda tunnel when the muffler came off; I’m sure they were wondering if I was going to smote them

Gets some noise canceling headsets and some "support your local police" stickers before proceeding.

YMMV

I've started my car up with the mufflers off and there isn't much of a difference in sound at all. I think the resonators and all that other stuff quiet it down a lot. As long as you keep the factory Y-Pipe and all the othere stuff under the car I think you'd be fine.

you'll get used to it, just watch out for the :cop: i ran my old s13 with a sr20det motor with just a 3inch downpipe it sounded crazy all you heard was the turbo spooling even just on idle, also depends on the area you live at, cops over here at Oakland don't really care b/c they got all the murders to worry about....wow, i wonder how would it sound on a cl... probably sounds nice on WOT but you probably won't hear the vtec...just watch out, be aware of cops everywhere especially behind you b/c they can sneak up behind you when you least expect...

Speaking of Oakland and murders...there was a shooting right in front of my house @ 12:30 AM Saturday night (Sept 4). I wasn't able to catch the act, but my bed is right next to the window and the shots woke me up. Feels kinda weird when you're able to see a homicide 3.5 car legths away (body and all...seconds after the shooting). It was messed up though since I couldn't get a hold of 911 until the cops arrived (I was calling on a cell phone and the 911 lines were busy), and when they got there, they blocked off the entire block with 14 cop cars, 1 patty wagon, 1 CSI van, 1 firetruck (came later), and 1 ambulance (came REAL LATE).

Yeah right...the last thing you want to do is be seen. Although I should of taken pics of the police blockades. For some odd reason taking pics didn't even come to mind, even though I was literally watching the CSI guys taking pics and combing the street for shells.

If u just remove the mufflers alone and the b-pipe w/ resonator is still in-tact...it will be slightly louder than if u had comptech mufflers on. Really not that loud at all....u shouldn't get pulled over.

It's not that loud unless you floor it - sounds pretty good actually. In fact I got pulled over for speeding once and I didn't have my mufflers on... he didn't even notice!

Ive run my car without mufflers for the hell of it for about three days... I think it sounds pretty nice, but it looks stupid as hell... It does a cool popping noise when you shift at redline. It is much louder than stock, but if you cruise in 5th at 60 it isn't that loud (Ive got the 6 speed...)
Can anyone tell me if there is a performance benfit from doing this, I plan on taking them off when I go to the track...

I have an auto but I drove my car for two days without the mufflers before I installed the comptechs, and it really wasn't as loud as I expected. At idle it is just barely louder than with the mufflers on.

it does sound pretty cool, especially since you have aftermarket headers. Just roll with it :soldier:

driving will certainly drive you nuts!!! also the high pitch droning will hurt your ears for sure!

will you get pulled over?? maybe just make sure when you see a cop to take your foot off the gas...
