Rough Idle, Ignition Problems...

First off,

I have a bad O2 sensor. It's been dead for about two weeks now and i've just been too busy to have it replaced (moving at home, plus the office is moving too, etc). So i've been driving around with a CEL, plus VSA, plus "!" for about 2 weeks now.

I don't remember if it started before the O2 sensor failed or if it happened right at the same time. Either way it is within one week of the CEL lighting up.

Anyways, I have some trouble starting the car sometimes. Occasionally it will start with a single crank of the starter, engine fires right up like it should. Other times it'll sound like it is starting after 3 or 4 cranks and then it'll just fall on it's face. So i'll turn the key again, a few cranks and it'll start up.

Now at idle it seems a little rough too all the time recently. The RPMs dip below 750 to around 600-650ish.

Are these two conditions caused by the 02 sensor? Or is my ECU starting to reject the UniChip? (Note: I have had ZERO problems relating to the UniChip since my custom tune.)

Get the 02 sensor replaced. If it's shot, your car will be in "limp mode" and it will be pretty hard to sort out pretty much anything.

Do you have an OBD II tester that confirms that's the only problem?

Without some exhaust gas feedback -- from the 02 sensor -- used during closed-loop operation, your system is going to be all over the place trying to "keep alive." The "limp tables" are not good for long term usage *and* it's probably not doing your cat. converter a big favor...

I took it to the dealer and had it scanned. They told me it was the O2 sensor.

The car runs fine once its going. I'm gonna try and get it replaced ASAP.

Thanks

its the pulleys! your engine is going to explode! I should cancel my appt for monday to have mine installed! lol jk.

its most likely the o2 sensor. you have to get it replaced anyway, so you may as well do that and see if it fixes the problem. if it does, voila. If all else fails ..

blame the unichip!

did they disconnect your battery or purge the code after they replaced the O2?

Smitty, they have not replaced the O2 sensor yet. They didn't have one instock. He tried to clear the code but the light popped right back on once we restarted the car.

The OBD scan port is in the center console between the seat heater buttons.

My service advisor doesn't care about the UniChip. He's actually the one who told me to go ahead and buy it when he heard about the potential gains and ability to tune it.

Not all dealerships are created equal

They are actually starting a performance website www.tischerperformance.com

My service advisor's car:

As you can see, they like performance

The NSX has a built motor and tons of Comptech goodies. All installed at the dealership with the exception of the motor which the dealership sent out to their machine shop.

The integra sits out in front of the dealership everyday and regularly hits the track. It has a Jackson Racing S/C in addition to other go fast stuff

^ Ugh... I suppose. Don't know why they scheduled the meet at 10AM! And it is all the way in Virginia. Lets meet at 95 and 216 at the Exxon gas station right there around 930. Deal?
