Road noise on 2nd Gen
I own a Toyota Solara right now, but was thinking about selling and buying either a 99-00 Lexus SC400 (290hp V8), or an Acura CL-S 6spd. The Acura is looking pretty cool, especially with the navi conversion that I would do.
Anyway, my real question is how is the road noise on the CL? I know the Lexus is extremely quiet, but I have never driven a CL before. I'm concerned that the CL might be a little noisy, and I certainly would be disappointed if the CL was noisier that my Solara (which is reasonably quiet). Does anyone have any experience with Lexus and a CL that can make some comparison?
All comments are appreciated!

I don't know that particular lexus, but I would imagine it would be quieter than the CL. the CL is louder than most luxury/semi luxury cars that I have been in.
I wouldn't make that the reason you buy or don't buy the car though. There are things you can do to quiet it down...undercoating, dynamat, replace the side mirrors with smaller mirrors.

I looked at the Solara and used SC400's before I bought my CL-S and yes the Toyota was a little quieter, especially on rough concrete. On smooth asphalt, I'd put my car up against a Solara or SC400. In fact, I thought the SC400 had more road noise. I did undercoat my car as I noticed it getting worse as the tires passed 50k miles (currently at 62k)! It is pretty quiet now. I've also heard that the 2003 mirrors were redesigned to be quieter and that the moonroof glass is thicker than on my 2001.
In the end, my decision came down to that sweet motor and the better road feel. The Solara felt like it was on jack stands. Even the brakes had no feel to them. I hated it. We just bought a Sequoia for the wife so I'm not anti-Toyota. In fact, I think it has more road feel than a Solara.

The 01 CL's were a bit noisier due to their side view mirrors. The 02's and above got different ones and it reduced the noise in the cabin.
MY 03 CL was pretty quiet when it was stock. You could still always hear that beautiful engine noise however.
Test drive'em both.
