Road Lights: What Purpose Do They Serve?

This is a serious question...

The road lights in the bumper - what do they do? Why are they there? They only turn on with the headlights. I thought they would be daytime running lights or fog lights but they seem to have no purpose. Can someone please explain?

You're correct, the road lamps are not a required lamp, it's mainly for aesthetics. However, road lamps can act as a backup lamp for the park and/or head lamps by marking the front width of the vehicle if one or both of those lamps malfunction.

Just for looks. They're not fog lights. I think the '03 looks better without them. Cleaner look.
