people have tried this before, they are swappable, but the problem is they aren't that bright, the road lamp housing can't handle anything over i think 25W or else the plastic melts.

do a search through the forums and you'll see.

if all else fails always search first before posting.

You know, i saw these bulbs, and i think they are the same one they used in the SEMA CL the one that everyone drooled over.

But how do you handle the wiring and the fitment of the bulb to hold it in place in the socket? And in addition, dont you need a special socket to hold that bulb? where do you get that?

I have no idea I have an '03 ... I just went out and bought the Catz MSX Fogs which have 85W bulbs which use the PIAA technology that supposedly produces 130W of light... we will see, install set for Sat. The bulbs that are in the fogs + the blue glass lens is supposed to be the closest thing to HID without really being HID I'll post pics.

Sly, you would know better than me. I heard the PIAA W2 bulb would fit in place of my stock road lamps. Does anyone know if I need to customize the housing or base to install the H3s?

Hey KissMy_Type_S,

Q #1: will the H3s fit into my stock housing and base?

Q #2: will the H3s melt my housing?

'01 Black CL Type S
everything is stock so far.

Youre most likely gonna have to modify the lamp housing, I dont have the road lamps cuz I have an '03 so I'm not too familiar with how it can be done. I do remember reading a thread here about a similar install. Try a searching for it

I know someone that installed HIDs into a factory housing and didnt have a problem so I cant imagine it being too much different. But there is always that chance of melting. Just dont leave them on when your not driving cuz thats when theyll get the hottest

I had the piaa LED bulbs in my road lamps. They are only rated at 5W, but were brighter than a 5w piaa incadesent bulb. Since they are LED they had a cool percise beam. Switched out my roadlamps though for 03 slots, since I have piaa's 2100x series fogs.
