Rim Weight Performance

At what weight does a rim begin to add performace to a car?

18" =

19" =

Now does rim width also play a factor?

Does someone have a formula to calculate what should be gained if an 'X' sized rim weight "X" ammout?

17 inch SSR competitions will add the most benefit. Go with the 17x8 size rim so you can go with a 245/40 profile tire. You get a nice wide thin tire. Some 18s or 19s won't add too much in terms of revs/mile but you'll be adding weight.

I see the benefit of the rims in road handling is 10 X better than the loss of some acceleration in the straight line... To drag race buy some slicks on some small rims (like 15")

But does anyone know of the weight limit for larger rims? At what point does 18s + 19s give the same performace as our 17s.

One more thing, do larger rims lower the RPMs when crusing on the highway?

I'm sure the question is more complicated than just what weight 18s or 19s should I look for since it also depends on where the majority of the weight is concentrated...on the inner or outer-edge of the wheel. Just look for the lightest wheels you can find that you like.
