rev matching?
rev matching?
Hey guys... I have a 2003 cls auto and have a newbie question with the term rev matching. These days I'm seeing cars advertised with rev matching paddle shifters. Is this any different than downshifting in sports mode? Can someone explain the diference if any exists? Thanks... (REALLY regret not getting a 6 speed)
It's when the cars ECU raises the rpm's to match the current rpm as you shift. It makes the shift smoother. It's the same principle as with a human doing it with a manual car, but is computer controlled. On the auto CLS there's no such feature.

Fuzzy answered the question though.

The auto CLS's (01 at least) have a bit jerky 2-3 shift at low speeds, but I try to rev match then and whenever I can. I just slightly press the accelerator while upshifting in SS mode. It is a bit hard to control exactly though, you have to take into account the gear ratios and pedal sensitivity. Wish I had a manual....
