Rev Limiter, not...WTF

Over the weekend I decided to play a little rough on the car. I've been up to 7-72hundred rpms only a few times since the SC has been on. Sooo....I get in a little pissing match with this VW Golf, dropped with what looked like 19's with perhaps a small turbo, and look down and I'm at 7500 and NOT banging out on the rev limiter, shift and carry it again to 7500. Later that night, i decided to do it one more time to be sure I wasn't imagining things, on freeway, dropped to 3rd and shifted at 7500 and still no rev limiter!!.

Scalbert, allmotor anyone? whats up wit dat?

If i'm correct, does the limiter works by shutting the fuel off alternatley to the injectors? that's a curiousity question.

Does anyone in the know think the ESM that comptech provides that clamps the voltage on the manifold sensor, may have something to do with this.

I have been very careful not to come up on the rev limiter with the SC because some very bad things can happen.

Looking for some ideas on this. Thanks all!

Rev limiter does help u on not overreving while shifted. It WONT protect you when downshifting. I heard stories of 12k + RPMs overrev due to mistakes downshift (2nd instead of 4th gear for instance).

It's too bad we don't have a spark arrestor system instead of a fuel cut-off. It could be disasterous on a FI engine to have the fuel cut-off.

Engine will run lean, possibly overheat a piston. Lots of bad things can happen when you run lean.

it cuts fuel and ignition...and the only thing i can think of at this point is what size tire /wheel are you running?

stock wheels and tires.

didn't know it cuts ignition, just thought fuel, therefore a lean condition could result, then detonation, and then uh-oh,

i never downshift to extreme to use the engine as a brake, hopefully i'll never downshift and miss a gear during wot, bent valves or worse,,, yikes

as a further note, before SC in stock condition, rev limiter seemed to work at about 7-7200 as it was designed to do

Does the power curve go down before that point? If not run it over to the dyno and run it until it drops off!

It seams like I always had more to go, but the damn rev limit stopped me.

It seemed to be pulling to the bloooodddyyyy end, which i think is a reason why were able to add a hpb. the stock pully is conservative and doesn't spool up the screws to their max by 7200, which may be the reason why it seemed to be pulling at 7500rpm. i have the stock pully and haven't upgraded and won't either. soon to be for sale, comptech sc low miles ,reserve now.

One thing is that the tach could be off. I would be curious to see what the ECU is saying the revs are. Hooking up a scan tool or software will give you that.

I was informed that the tach may be off and that a scan tool can simulate rpm's. to me, that would be the safest way to find the prob, may be something as simple as resetting the ecm. how are things with hopesystems steve, i'm still watchin the web site for new perfomance enhanced products
