Retarded Coin Tray

I guess I had too many coins in the Friggin coin tray and now two coins are caught way back there and it won't open. I can see the two coins but I have no idea how I could take them out with out disassembling the whole dash. AAAGGGGHHHH!!! Any Ideas, has this happened to any of ya'll?? I could really use ya'lls help!

Take it to the Dealership. They fixed mine for free. Or go down to OSH and get one of those snake/grabber things and try and get them out that way?

Just a thought....never tried this and don't know how much space you have, but if you can see them, can you get one of those little magnetic screw retriever thingies in there? If you don't know what I'm talking about, it looks like a radio antenna (telescopic) and has a small powerful magnet on the end about the size of a pencil eraser. They're used for retrieving those small parts you drop in the engine/engine bay. You can get them at any auto parts store for $5.

Don't if it'll work or not, but just a thought..........

This happens to me often. If you can move the door at all, just wiggle it back and forth or up and down as hard as you can. If you manage to pry it open slam it shut HARD... your coins will fall behind the tray and you'll be good.

That and the cup holder door, my god!

Funny, the same thing happened to me last week. I hated the way it looked half-ass opened

I removed all coins, then was able to get my fingers to clear out a few that we stuck behind it. It went back to normal...

I was screaming at mine last night for the same reason... ANY time I have something plugged in and I accelerate, the coin tray flys open. Whomever designed those two parts being connected, was a complete moron.

My fear is that one day coins will fall *into* the plug hole and short it out ..

Thanks ya'll, Ill try the ideas ya'll gave. The only thing is that the coins are in a place where i think the dash has to be taken out to retrieve. This has happened before but the coins never went that far back. Hopefully Nalley Acura will be nice since I they screwed up my visit there last time!

Taking apart your dash only takes 10 minutes... going slow... don't pay to do it...

Thumbs up

Someone posted this on the forum a while back, but this has worked occasionally for me...

1) Close the coin tray.
2) Think about an ex-girlfriend/wife or someone you really hate.
3) Make a fist and pound the right and left sides of the center console (about the same height of the tray)
4) A few whacks should losen the coins and they will drop to the floor (somewhere).
5) If it doesn't work after a few attempts, you will at least feel better about that 'special someone'.

Anthony

PS - I added points 2 & 5 to the original instructions...

what i did was push the coin(s) until they fell below [right under neath the cointray]. Then all u have to do is pull up on the plastic tray underneath the cointray and it pops right out. then u just use some pliers or something to pick up the coins. really easy and straight forward.

I rule! Grabbed a falshlight and took a look into the not an ashtray hole and there it was ... the offending quarer jammed up deep. After many failed attempts and four or five different implements, a needle nose plier finally pulled that POS out. Everything is hunky dory again. Last time I "unstuck" the not an ashtray, I promised myself that I wouldn't use it anymore. That lasted a litel while until I forgot. I think it's going to be the same story in a few months: another POS coin giving me a headache. Damn not an ashtray.

P.S. Didn't have to pull the tray out, which I tried again unsuccessfully. Just took the illumination of the flashlight to ID the offender.

Good luck!

i thought i was the only person with this problem, coin got stuck, when i open it, had to use a fork to push them out, now the ashtray coin tray whatever it is, hangs out slightly, im just going to take that out and put a mp3 player in place of it.

Thanks so much! Your solution worked great! I only lost one quarter to "down below" before covering the opening with tin foil. It was driving me crazy not being able to close that thing.
