Resonator Delete?

Couldnt find it with search.. Does removing it, on its own make the car sound better or does it take a new muffler?

best way to describe it on here is deleting the resonator equals more of a WAAAAAAAAAAAA,, keeping the resonator and adding a different muffler equals more of a brrrrrrrrmrmmmmmmmm. muffler plays a HUGE roll in the sound too tho, some ppl can delete the resonator and it won't sound RICEY and others can't... depends on mufflers and car.

I just put on the CT axleback mufflers and it sounds classy and refined.. but I could honestly do with it louder personally but I'm cool with it being reserved. looks amazing and bolted up like a dream. I was super impressed

There will be more rasp and drone. It'll sound more like a Civic then a 3.2l V6.

replace your tock mid muffler with a high flow resonator.
Do it right the first time, not wrong 2 or 3 times..

It seems like its hit or miss with this mod. Most say get a better resonator, but there are some running the delete. I am debating the delete and then getting a vibrant resonator when the Magnaflow mufflers get broken in. Maybe this would work for you?

I have no resonator with the HKS Dragers and it's not ricey at all...(Morgan! :P ) But I would recommend getting it done with some new aftermarket mufflers or it will sound silly. Here's my car:

Thats the difference though, you have different mufflers to change the sound entirely. The stock mufflers are somewhat high pitched with just headers. More so with a high flow cat or even cat delete. Without the resonator, it sounds horrible.

IMO of course.

Morgan, whats your opinion on the Magnaflow's with a resonator delete? Ever heard them? Will they sound as good as tre's draggers?

Magnaflows, no resonator:

Magnaflows, with resonator:

You really cant compare the HKS to the MagnaFlows, theyre completely different sounds. I prefer the subtlety of the MagnaFlows though.

does the stock resonator take away power?

and whats the comparison between high flow cat vs deleting the mid muffler...

I think this will be my next acquisition as i think my car is too quiet with the CT mufflers. sadly

A cat delete definitely induces more rasp. There are vids on YouTube with it. I ran a MagnaFlow HFC when I had my CT setup, I loved it.

Thats what I used to have. XS Headers to 2.5" MagnaFlow HFC to CT 2.5" B-pipe w/ MagnaFlow resonator and CT mufflers. Switch to HD for better sound. I wish I placed the camera a bit closer to the car though.

If the stock resonator takes away any power, I doubt you'd be able to feel it.

I had an 18 inch magnaflow resonator with stock cans before and it sounded okay. the resonator was a straight through design. A high flow cat would be much more beneficial

Yea, I dont think putting a new resonator on the exhaust while keeping the stock cans is worth it. It makes sense if you are changing the mufflers or going to larger piping though.

i just hate finding a good shop and hopeing they do good work and i hate paying for labor in general... I know i'd get more power going full custom but I would just like to keep things bolt on so i can remove if necessary and so it's a bit cheaper... I know i'll never have the fastest CL since i'm an autotragic BUT I do wanna have one of the best looking and sounding hopefully and I am beginning to lean on the High flow cat...

after seeing the gains off of 1foxbody's set-up with NO cat and no resonator (which tho i was skeptical about the design resulted in a beastly numbers... good job!)... i'm not as worried about losing some low end as i previously thought.. I am dying to see 240WHP or more (last dyno i did was 229WHP with the holes in the mufflers and no power steering lightweight pulley) with my new CT mufflers without the holes in them AND the XLR8 high flow cat i think i'd be able to pull it off???? u think?? and ould i gain or lose tq?? that was around 187ish and i'd love to see that nice 200... but THAT's a pipedream i presume

and should i go 200cell or 300cell? i was thinking 300 since the stock cat is like 1200 substrate i thought??

back on the noise topic tho it'll be a little raspy? and will the drone on the highway increase?

I gotta say it's nice to go under the car and see chromed out exhaust parts... feeelsss GOOOD

If you go HFC, there shouldnt be much added drone or rasp. Fuzzy mentioned drone/rasp, but I havent heard anyone else really complain about it.

The exhaust adds around 6hp, the ps pulley maybe another hp. With a HFC you should hit 240hp.

Materials are around $300 online, then whatever a shop will charge to weld everything up.

Will you pass emissions with the HFC? If so, then sell it.

i barely passed emissions with my magnaflow HFC. Two of the figures were bang on the limit. So you should keep the old cat and swap it in for emissions.

CL-S progression 01 I made those numbers with a resonator. I think I'm actually going to add another resonator soon once I feel like spending the extra cash. I already dumped a lot of money into my whole exhaust setup lol. It should make the tone a littler more deeper and less rasp. It's not a bad tone right now, everyone loves it I just want it a pinch deeper.

I agree that the HKS and Magnaflow are different sounds, which is why I went with the HKS, I like it a lot better. And the stock mufflers do sound silly without the resonator.

Youll need to cut off your mufflers and weld in new ones - if you get the MagnaFlows.

If you go with Comptechs or HKS', theyre bolt ons.

Or you can just buy my old 2.5" CT setup

SO would this be a good resonator to run with 2 magnaflow 14832's? I want my exhaust loud but rasp would be bad. I don't mind turning heads but I want the sound to be good, not have people looking over because I sound like crap.

Deleting the resonator will sound good with out sticking out too bad with stock mufflers.
If you go to a straght threw mufflers it will get raspy.
If you cant deal with straght threw mufflers and a deleted resonator you might as well never consider a hi flow cat.

I would do one piece at a time upgrading your exhaust before wasting hundreds/thousands of dollars and not end up liking it.

Mine sounds ricey to plenty and is not for everyone or I would push my setup on you too.

I have HKS Superdraggers and I was contemplating on removing my resonator and maybe replacing it with an aftermarket one but after hearing the videos, they don't sound that well. I think I was expecting something deeper, the set up I have now is pretty deep. Thanks for the vids, I'll be keeping the stock resonator on there for now.

What did you notice between the stock resonator and no resonator with the HKS mufflers? Louder and deeper? or just louder and more raspy? Any more drone on the freeway?

That's the reason I went from Comptech to my HKS. I loved the deep tone of the comptechs but they were a bit quiet. The HKS gives the same tone but louder.

PM me. If we talk sales in here the thread will get locked.

The good news is you're in PA. My setup is from the engine back, headers and all. Youll gain ~25hp off of it. The parts are sitting in Northern VA, so it shouldnt be a bad drive from PA. Theyre with Paul, you may have heard his name in the past. Hes the only person I trust to work on my car, and he can swap the exhaust directly onto your car while youre there.
