Reseting ECU

I have read several posts about how reseting the ECU helps. Exactly how do you go about doing this. I havent found a post about it.

And what is the advantage of resetting your ECU?

For example, I haven't put any mods in, is there any merit for me to do that?

Will it make my car any faster if I reset it and start driving more aggressively?

Will it help with fuel economy?

Is there any reason to maybe do this every so often?

I have heard that it is a good idea to do this, after changing air or fuel flow characteristics.

What about tightening the throttle cable?

I know there no HP increase, but I've heard some people do that to help make the car more responsive with the gas paddle? Is this true? Anybody do this on their car? If so, how?

to reset your ECU you unplug your battery for a certain amount of time, I can't remember off hand how long though. make sure you have your radio and navi codes handy, as you'll need them when you connect back up.

even after installing headers and intake..?? I know you're a pretty wise person when it comes to autos.. but many people who've added the said mods would beg to differ w/ you on this issue...

They can beg all they want but it doesn't amount to anything. Try watching the fuel trim after a reset and see what is does and how quickly...

Headers affect scavenging and may affect idle and part throttle A/F ratios. But that is also detected and adjusted for within minutes as witnessed by a scan tool. The wishful thinking feel effect is not credible.

I swear on my life, after I reset my ecu, I was able to chirp into second gear when I added my headers. Before I reset, I was ready to take out the headers out of disapointment. Same thing when my tranny was replaced, no more aggressive shifting pattern. When i reset the ecu, the car was back to lunging forward in vtec and right before the shifts. Before the reset, the tranny would just make a placid shift into the next gear and I was getting blown away in street runs with typically slower cars. It takes 3 hrs to reset the battery, then drive it around like you stole it for a half hour. The next day your car will be a beast and it will sound louder. trust me, i really don't car when others say it doesn't work, i'm just happy my car is back to normal after I set the reset ecu.

McGrath Acura in Westmont, IL ..

They're one of the Acura dealers that sell and install comptech parts and fully warrant the car after doing so ..

their head tech (who does the comptech install and tuning) told me he'd reset the ECU after installing my parts and that he recommended it (in fact they do it routinely after installing headers and intakes)...

Go figure .. i guess you're right, everyone's got their own opinion...

2 steps to reset the ECU

Pull the battery cable
Pull the #13 fuse out from the PASSANGER side fuse box, for 30 minutes.

You'll be all reset.
