The RES mystery mod

This is taken from hondanews.com
They talk about this Helholz principle. They are telling you that they have optimized for this. How could someone have designed something better? I am not saying it is not possible but those Honda engineers have been building engines for a long time. Please see below for a quick blurb or go to the website for more details. Hope this helps. Or help me understand what this product is trying to do that is different. Thanks.

DUAL-STAGE INDUCTION SYSTEM (CL TYPE-S)
The CL Type-S features a high-performance, dual stage induction system, which contributes substantially to the output of the 260 horsepower engine. This system uses a large, two-chamber intake plenum separated by a butterfly valve, which is opened by an electric servomotor above 3800 rpm.

When the valve is closed during low-to-mid rpm operation, a resonance charge condition exists as pressure pulsations between cylinders assist the adjoining cylinder of each bank. In doing so, the volume of air filling the cylinders increases with the resonance energy generated by using the Helmholz principle. This Helmholz principle phenomenon (the same effect that increases bass response in a tuned-port sub-woofer) results in improved cylinder charging.

When this valve opens at 3800 rpm, an inertial charge condition is generated and increased air filling continues when the manifold (plenum) volume is increased. This phenomenon uses the high flow mass to pressurize the manifold port air, producing a natural "supercharger" effect.

That excerpt is talking about the induction system... mainly the butterfly valve. The RES is a totally different beast... it has nothing to do with the butterfly valve at all. I uses the same principal... but in a different location on the engine... so that's why it works.

I don't remember seeing a topic where someone question the RES, comparing it to the dual-stage intake.

Hmmmm... well, it's definitely not the first post about the RES though... that's for sure

acctually junior that's not quiet right..the dual stage induction system is exactly what RES is about ...it replaces the the OEM cover over the plenum area allowing for even more air to enter furthure enhancing this natural super charging effect.so optimized doesnt nessecarily mean maximized.
RES is the cover to the dual stage induction system.
does it do more than the oe cover ?not sure .but i believe it works
