Res!!!

Ok, now that I've got your attention...let me swing an idea everybody's way. As we all know, OBX has made a replica of CT's headers for dirt cheap. It also appears, that they're making exhause for cheap(according to some threads). Now, what if Doug teamed up with OBX to make the RES. That would probably take care of the up front cost of equipment as OBX, probably has acces to it already. He'd have to share some of the profits, but he'd make some money(as opposed to no money, which is what it looks like right now) and we'd get RES, for a cheap price.
What do you guys think?

this wont happen

obx is not targeting products for the cl/tl and type s

it is obvious that they are targeting the Accord v6. It just happens that we share some of the same performance modifications. Until they make a rear header bank for the six speed cl-s then i wouldnt bet they will make something exclusively for our cars...

No it works and there is a dyno to prove it.

Huh, cool... I have only seen talk/scalbert/myth on it....

And I've been reading this forum since it was 260hp.com

LOL, guess I missed it. I'll have to do a search,

:edit:

Ya, I remeber that older post now. I forgot scalberts design was different. Be nice to see the device actually exist. Too bad the dyno pics are bad links now... But ya, they were there. Unfortunetly they were created with Excel! :P

Its vaporware and it will stay that way...

Why don't they make just a couple RES? I would buy one for $600 +... If they just make sayyyyy 3 of them and just brought one to a meet or something they would leave the meet with plenty of money toward productions costs.
Or just make one and take 10 high quality pics of the damn thing and post it here so we can see the thing exists.

This thing isn't getting made becuase the the costs are too much for production and the maker hasn't shown enough evidence for us to cough up $$$$ for it.

NOPE, you’re WRONG there.
I believe it actually LOWERED the numbers.

As for an OBX RES, I think they would seriously need to address their quality issues.
Having rough welds and misaligned holes is one thing on an EXHAUST system, but a whole other ball game on an INTAKE.
It would have to be properly machined with ZERO metal fragments and have an acceptable tolerance on the mounting holes, something that I don’t think they can handle right now.

I made mine assuming what the design was of the RES. Obviously there was something different to it as mine lowered the HP numbers 1 - 2 points.

It would be nice to have someone help get the RES out...

OBX would need to have the resources and money to get this going. They would have to negotiate with Doug to make sure he gets his cut. (Hey, anyone ever get any patent information?)

I don't see OBX giving Comptech any money (and I'm not saying anything other than that).

You'd be suprised at how much stuff some of the resellers have "sitting around" that never got purchased (I'll keep the source confidential).

AND

-- My opinion from recent calling --

If you guys really want something, keep calling the potential manufacturer/seller. "We just never thought the item would sell. We never got more than 3 or 4 calls and our sales guys just didn't think there was any interest," was told to me by one of the suspension folks yesterday. I called a couple of other potential parts vendors about this today and yesterday (after wondering about that comment). CALL the sales people at the company you want to make a product and tell everyone you know to call there. (It isn't guaranteed, but you'd be surprised at what happens when sales people don't have product to sell to "hungry" buyers...)

-- end --

Does any body actually have the design spec of the RES? If so, my father have many business connections with factories in Asia to make this thing. Even if the product does not sale, I know I can squeeze a dozen demos out of them. I get demo engineer samples all the time with the products they import to the US companys.

Whoever have this design I will hook you up with the factories.. at least we can get a couple "extra" made for people to have on this board.

TO go into detail my friend's car was the test vehicle for the RES. The then took the car to a local dyno place not to far from me. I'll see if he wants to reply to this post.

So u willing to pay $600+...how bout $1200+. Cause thats how much it was to forge one (1) out of aluminum.

You mean to have one cnc machined??? Forged aluminum

And yes I would pay a good sum of money for this product but not quite a grand...

I would just love to know what the design is really like after my failure. Heck, if I could get the designs I'd have one made locally, out of my pocket, and if the power were there I would find the financial resources to have it made.

Additionaly, I would be willing to go into legal contract on this matter to protect the investments made by Doug. But as mentioned, this is provided the gains are there in a one off based on the designs.

Sry bro, to forge such a piece of machinery, to those exact standards will be $1K+. So if u want one expect to pay over 1K for it. But if it were mass produced and cast, then the prices can easily be seen around the $250- $500 range.

It seems given the History of stops & Starts on this thing, and Doug's reluctance to reply or contact the more "resourceful" and "knowledgeable" guys on this forum, like Scalbert, makes it seem even more unlikely that it was a Viable product in the 1st place.

I got some e-mail and I'm going to leave some of the comments out... I am not a mind reader and my communications to Doug are not "continuous". My e-mails go unanswered in regards to "what about doing this or that"...

However, there are a number of issues that are "complicated" and are not strictly technical.

There are some "real" people that drove the cars with the RES on it and it looked to product good numbers on a 3.2L engine in HOT weather.

I always wanted to see how the air density issues figured in this (how it would work in 60-70 degree-F temps, but...)

eric,
I knew it. People are easy to jump on things when they aren't done ASAP. I just hope doug is able to straighten out whatever issues there are and then get this product on to the market.

Just IMO, there are places this country, particularly in the northern AL to central TN, which this product could be made more reasonably than in south FL.

This is the reason for my previous statements and I still stand by them.

I agree with you scalbert. I was up in Wisconsin for a few days and spoke with some people they said it would be more than possible to get it moving. I just wish Doug would allow some of the board members here to get this product to the market. Ugh. I'm sure NDA wouldn't be a problem and as far as a finders fee for arranging the production could rewarded with a free unit. Like eric said, seems to be other complications.....

It has been a while and there were numerous issues...

Back in April there was a comment about getting some test units out.

Back on October, there were "other" issues.

I am in a bit of a pickle myself. I want to get some sample prices, but they wont' give me them (samples and/or prices) unless I commit to a large order and fill out a ton of paperwork. Sometimes things are not as simple as you would think...

Perhaps Type-R can contact him and see what he thinks...
