Replacing Front Struts

All,

My car is at the dealer getting a new transmission and they just called telling me my front strut(s) is leaking. Can anyone give me an idea how mcuh is reasonable to have one or both of the struts replaced? They are quoting me $663 which seems awfully high.

Thanks for the help
-Elliot

Rip off. Your better off getting someone's used ones & getting a shop to put them in. Or dumping stock & getting something better. It's also better to get them replaced in pairs rather then just 1 side.

Fuzzy:

The $663 is for the front pair.

Sorry if I was not clear.

I was quoted $166/side for the struts. Where do I find these online? On the Acura parts websites out there, all teh parts are about $25 and I do not believe the markup is THAT large.

Thanks

I got it done for free...the extended warranty works lol but I had to go in there with my stock rims because they would complain and bitch about me having 18inch chromes. (which do kill your struts) But when I saw the price that Acura was covering, I believe thats how much it was (~$600).

ok, then that's a normal DEALER price for parts & labor.

Get Tokico HPs for about $250 for all four. Most dealers will charge one hour per shock, so expect about $400 for all four. Which means you should take it else where. Most shops can get all four done in 2 hours.

Yeah, $663 is high. I went to price acura to have all 4 replaced and i got quoted $935 which is still expensive. I am somewhat afraid of letting a local garage fix it because they could mess up the seat or something and then i would be up a creek.

If you want a stock replacement strut just get KYB GR2's. They should be about $70 or so shipped each. And then the labor to do the front would be maximum 2.25 hours.

You can get replacement struts for like 60 a peice, and the labor should not cost that much. I could put them in for a few bucks.
