Replacing ECU - '01 CL-S
Hi, recently I took a trip and my "Check Engine" Light remained on but the car rode fine for the 400 mile trip.
My mechanic (whom i trust) read the error code, i believe it may be a 16 (don't trust me on that) in any case the code won't go away and he says its saying the computer is faulty.
He told me I can get the part myself used and he will just charge me to install it and it will be A LOT cheaper then a new ECU.
The part # he gave me is: 37820-PGE-315
From my looking around this site I see a part #: 37820-PGE-A55
It also seems like the part #'s may have changed over time as acura did various fixes for the transmission. My transmission was replaced twice (I am on my 3rd).
My questions are:
1. What is the latest part number I need for a '01 CL-S ECU?; and
2. What other parts am I going to need if I just buy this thing off e-bay, will I need to make sure it comes with a wiring harness, ignition switch/matching key or anything?
Best!

I will contact the mechanic and get the DTC code from him tomorrow, I think he is closed for the day.
In the mean time assuming arguendo that the ECU needs replacing, what is the proper ecu to install and any other info I should know?
I go to acuraautomotiveparts.com and I called a dealer and I am told "37820-PGE-A55", however my mechanic quoted me today "37820-PGE-315", and I do see some threads referencing the -315
1. What gives?
a. Was there changes to the ECU as Acura attempted to fix the transmission problem? IE. changing the shift patterns and such?
b. If so what is the latest ECU?
2. Regardless, any other information I should know, such as how to use the electronic key fob w the etc. with a new ECU

When I look at my paperwork, the 2nd time my transmission was changed the ECU was also changed.
From looking around this site, I found this post showing someone else's ECU being changed to the -315 when their transmission was replaced: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...&postcount=213
Question:
The dealer did not voluntarly decide to cough up a $1200 ECU when changing the transmission:
1. anyone know the difference in the ECU for why the dealer changed it with the 2nd transmission.
2. How can I spot that I an replacing it with the same post transmission recall ECU, is this the difference between the -315 and -a55?
Best!

I have a '01 CL-S, I need a new ECU (non CA emissions)
I want to make sure the ECU installed is the ECU I had installed when my transmission blew that was adjusted to put less stress on the transmission. I see the "315RM" on my invoice from when my transmission was changed, however, the "RM" for re-manufactured is not indicated on the actual ECU unit itself. The units I am coming across used don't indicate if they are a "RM", I don't know if there was such a thing as a "-315" without the "RM".
The models i've come across are as follows:
37820-PGE-A55 - Part # listed on acuraoemparts.com
37820-PGE-315RM - Part Currently installed in my car that was put in when transmission was changed
"37820-PGE-315 - Part i am finding used on ebay/junk yard
"37820-PGE-325 - Another part I was told of that is for the '01 CL-S

Which Updated PCM P/N Does Your 2001 CL-S Have?
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-2001-2003-50/updated-pcm-p-n-does-your-2001-cl-s-have-490035/
Acura Tech Line Summary Article BTS070605: Shudder, Slips, Harsh Shifts After PCM R&R
Applies To: 2000-2003 3.2TL, 2001-2003 3.2CL
http://techinfo.honda.com/Rjanisis/p.../BTS070605.PDF
The listed vehicles require a new PCM to improve the performance and durability of the remanufactured
transmission. These PCMs delay the upshifts which make upshifts appear more abrupt or harsh.
If a customer complains that their replacement transmission shifts later, shifts harsher or appears to slip or
shudder at shifts, test drive the vehicle to make sure the transmission is not slipping or shuddering. If the
transmission only has later and/or harsher upshifts, explain the differences between the original PCM and
the new PCM and its benefits.

TSB 08-045: Harsh 2–3 Shift Immediately After PCM Replacement

I recommend calling Acura Client Services and asking them to inquire with the engineering dept as to which PCM part number you should install.
In addition, I would leave the PCM removal and install to the Acura dealer, as they will need to swap out the immobilizer key transponder codes from the old PCM into the new PCM. Details are outlined in the TSBs.
