Removed resonator. Should I buy K&N drop-in or CAI? do they sound much different?

I removed my intake resonator and did notice a little bit of sound difference, but it's hard to tell with headers already installed. I am debating:

1) Just buying the K&N drop in filter for $50

2) Spending $50 and getting the aem ebay copy and another $45 on a K&N cone filter....it is acutally a decent 1 piece design that is a true CAI(exact AEM copy) "CL-Slick" and a couple other members have it and like it.

Is there much of a difference in sound between a K&N drop-in without resonator and a AEM/INJEN/EBAY intake? What about HP?

A sound clip comparing the two would be awsome

i have the k&n filter only with out resonators and i love the sound. i doubt theres much difference in performance. although with a CAi you do have a little bit bigger plumming..but in my opinion k&n has the best flow..even with a stock plenum..

Any aem type of intake will scream when vtec kicks in. Entirely different sound. Some like it some think it's too loud.
The icebox & the removed resonator are VERY tame.

I'm not real concerned about v-tec. It's loud as is, I just want it to be louder from 1-3.5 thousand rpm...normal driving

Do you loose a lot of low end power with a CAI? I'm thinking I may go with the ebay cai, but still wanna hear some input

I've got an AEM CAI w/ K&N X-stream filter and headers. I've noticed the intake is louder when the motor is cold but as the temp gauge moves up its less noticeable. Louder than stock box but I think you'd be most content w/ a CAI and K&N... you won't really hear it at low RPM freeway speeds (which i think is most important)... and like fuzzy said, it'll scream when you gun it.

if you go CAI, just make sure you strap it down really well either using the mounts that the kit comes with or fab your own if need be. If not it will vibrate and hummm like a UFO during idle. I went AEM V2, I love their stuff, I haven always used AEM in all my cars when it comes to intakes.

CAI is better but dunno if its worth the extra money. it probably has better power but slightly. you wont lose low end power either with resonator and K&N filter or ebay intake.
since you wont mind the sound, then ebay wouldnt be a problem with you.
I have K&N drop in with resonator removal and its good enough for me. Its louder then stock but not too loud to attract cops or disturb my passengers. CARB cert needed in cali and ebay filter wont cut it. Me, I dont mind the sound. It still screams at vtec but not as much as a CAI would but better then stock. Also its cheap. I only bought the filter for about 30 bucks and thats how much the whole modification cost me.

so its really up to you. If sound or money is no object then ebay CAI is good.
If you need carb cert and a little more frugle then resonator removal is good enough and yields results close to CAI.

if someone really wanted to they could add a lower horn like the ice box has to the stock box with k&n drop in

I cut the portion directly under my airbox where now I have a K&N drop in filter at. The total surface area of the filter now has air movement, and the sound is nice. Down side for some is that the filter housing just sits there and that might pose a problem, I have however never had a problem with any rattling noises, and it feels rather sturdy
