Redline Tranny Fluid Question

CT recomends the use of Redline. But how do u get all the fluid out. I mean if u drain the tranny, u still have the torque converter still full of Acura tranny fluid. So my question is what should I do. Get to the Tq converter and drain it, flush the tranny untill there is mostly Redline, or just simply drain the tranny and fill it with redline?

I dont think that little bit of fluid in your torque converter is going to do anything if it is mixed with the other fluid. Just drain it and fill it up with the redline.

If you just pull the plug and let the tranny drain (assuming you angle the car properly) the MOST you will get out is maybe 2/3 of the total tranny fluid. In order to totally drain it you need a pump.

I got more out by following this process.

After it quits draining the first time, I close everything up and let the car back down, and then drive it back and forth in the drive way a couple of times. The shifting process puts more tranny fluid back in the bottom of the pan.

I did this twice and got about another quart out of it.

typeR, it sounds like if you use both approaches, once (and one time) what I suggested, followed up the 2nd time the way you did, it would probably get the most complete flush one can do themselves.

Or go to some shop that has a machine that flushes it completely, but charges you a pretty penny for it. :P

I have heard the same thing MANY times from honda/acura mechanics. NEVER use any other transmission fluid except honda fluid in a honda transmission.

let me re state this again....one we all know hondas ability to build an automatic transmission...do you really wanna take there word for it?....i talked to redline and asked..." warranty aside do you see any benefites from using redline trans fluid products..." a resounding yes was the short answer...this was there head tech speaking....and lastly honda does not check the transmission,...they dont examine the fluid...they dont question you one what fluid you may have used and lastly the manual clear;y states use a dexron III where honda ATF is not available...obviously they do say switch back as soon as possible....

The way I did my chevy (since the converter holds about 5 out of the13 quarts of fluid), was to drain the tranny, and then fill it back up again. Then, unhook the return line for the tranny cooler in the rad, and pull the ignition fuse. Then have comebody crank the engine until new fluid comes out the return line (keep checking the tranny fluid, as you are bound to run it out).

That way you'll get 99% of the old stuff out, with no risk of damaging anything, with the least amound of grief.

U know that sounds like a good idea, but my question is how does the Tq converter empty out?

I can see that by turning over the engine may allow the Tq converter to rotate but doesn't it need to be in gear to allow the Tq converter to engage?

I would feel better doing it ur way, by driving the car in the drive way w/o any tranny fluid doesn't feel right to me.
