my brother uses the oil for his motorcycle and he loves it. he races his bike on tracks so you know he pushes it hard. the oil is expensive though, it's like $9 a quart.

I'm using Red Line oil in the CL-S. In the Mustang, I've got their gear oil in the differential, their ATF in the manual transmission, their WaterWetter in the radiator and occasionally their oil in the engine. It also gets regular treatment with their Fuel System Cleaner. I personally think they make some of the best synthetic lubricants available.

However, from everything I've read here on the board, it sounds like it's best to stick with Honda ATF since apparently it contains some special additive. The owner's manual does say you can use regular Dexron III ATF as a temporary substitute but shift quality may be affected with prolonged use.

Only Red Line's "D4 ATF" and "High Temp ATF" are Dexron III compatible and with winter approaching, the only real choice would be the "D4 ATF". I'd call them and ask to speak to one of their techs before switching since others have reported both Amsoil and Mobil reps have suggested not to use their own synthetic products in Honda/Acura automatics. Red Line will probably say the same thing...

I saw that also about Comptech using Red Line ATF with their supercharger but my response was aimed for normal driving where you want the transmission to last as long as possible and still be covered under the Acura warranty. My thought was that most of these synthetic lube companies (Red Line, Amsoil, Mobil...) have no problem recommending their ATF in other manufacturer’s cars but they won't recommend it outright for newer Honda/Acuras. There is some special friction modifier that Honda adds specifically for their automatic transmissions and that is not in these "universal" type ATFs. Even if you did switch to Red Line ATF, your transmission would probably be trouble-free for a long time but with all the trouble I've read others have had with their stock transmissions, I personally wouldn't take any chances for the possible small increase in performance with the synthetic ATF.

TypeR, try switching over and see if it makes a difference. To flush the old fluid out, don’t they recommend four drain and fills in a row at 3 quarts a fill? That would mean you’d need 12 quarts and at roughly $8.50 a quart, that’s over a $100 just in fluid alone. I’d be very curious if there was a noticeable increase in performance.
