Recall - ok, but no loaners anymore

I call the dealer (only dealer in town) about the newest recall, my car is in it. They didn't know much about it and took all day to get back to me. Told me yes to bring it in, it needs to be checked for the tensioner, timing belt, water pump. I asked about a loaner if it needed to stay overnight.
He said no, 'we no longer offer loaners as of last Monday.'
I don't know if he is just playing hardball and will give me one if I yell enough, but why make me do that?

I bought this car partly because they said loaner cars with warranty work. This was part of the 'sales pitch' I got. What's the point of buying an Acura if it has recalls or needs warranty work and you can't get a loaner? The dealer is about 30-45 minutes from my home and work. So much for Acura Customer Care or whatever they call it.

Ive realized lately how Acura's service doesn't compare to Lexus.......ive been in 3 situations where normally i would get a loaner, once i got nothing, twice i got a shi*ty rental (chevy malibu), my friend with a lexus is300 has been in two similar situations. The first time, about 6 months ago he got a lexus RX 300 and just last week he got a brand new RX 330........and let me tell you that thing is bad ass.

acura sux in that department!

Agreed. Lexus is the best. My fam owns an SC...they know us by our first names the second time we walked in the dealership. Everytime we go they treat us as though we were buying a new car.

They give us brand new models as loaners when the car is in the shop. Which is a great idea cause it makes you wanna trade in for something newer.

Plus when it was just me and a friend walking in looking at ISs, they treated us awesome even though they've never seen us before and we're only 22 dressed like we just got outta school.

BMW just turned a blind eye. Acura acted all cocky cause we drove up in an accord. When we brought the supra around the next day it was a different story. Porsche has good service too. So does Infiniti and Nissan.

Lexus is key. Jaguar dealers are not too shabby at all either. I got a nice 3.0 for a couple of days.

welp that's the reason why lex owners pay a premium on their cars....in addition to the quality etc., i don't want to start anything, my statements were only an observation.

I feel your pain with regard to "the only dealer in town." Just wait until November 1, that's when Sterling Acura will be opening down in South Austin. Bring your car in, and I assure you, your problems will be dealt with professionally. It's going to be located @ 4801 IH 35... that's the northbound side of IH35 just south of 71.

is your car still under waranty? If it is, Acura has to honor their loaner agreement that was included in your factory warranty. Check you books!
Go right and talk to the General Manager. If they really dont have any loaners, as long as he is a nice guy he can give you a "used" car to use for the day.
His job is to ensure that you keep coming back and buying from them. If giving a loaner when you in a squeeze would make you come back, then he would do it. Just let him know that you are thinking of a new car and if he wants your money...........
I am sure he will cave...

Cody, I know about Sterling from my business contacts. Do you work there? I thought about waiting but when it's the timing belt I thought I'd better get it looked at. I've been waiting for another Acura dealer for 15 years or more. I've loved my Acuras and Hondas but the local dealer really throws a damper on owning an Acura.
I'd get a Lexus if they made a 2 door I could afford.

Lexus rocks. I love my RX330. The quality blew me away when I was looking. No comparison.

called the dealership today who does my service (didn't buy the car from them) and made an appointment for next Thursday. Asked about loaner car, and was told "of course". Never had a problem getting loaners at all for any reason, beit service, warranty repair, or (now) recall.

Lexus will not only give you a loaner, they will drive it to your front door for you and pick up your car in return, even out of warranty, doesnt matter.

You cant beat lexus service...period.

Its sad acura doesnt take a clue. They leave each independent dealer up to their devices on this matter. So to each serivce dept their own.

Examples:
Keyes Acura- Nothing
Santa Monica Acura - Rental car
Pasedena Acura - Acura Loaner

It reflects the GM of the dealer more then anything, but again sad acura doesnt step in and up their serivce quality.
