Rebuilt Tranny question

hey guys, I have a little problem. I posted this in *first generation*, but didnt get much of a response. here is the deal. I have a 3.0Cl with a newly rebuilt transmission as of like a couple days ago. The guy that rebuilt it, also added a transmission cooler to it which is good. He has the car right now and says that it shifts too firm now like a shift kit would feel like. Now, I read that the trans will shift more firm with a cooler added to it, but how firm? Is it possible that there may be too much pressure in the lines somewhere or is it supposed to feel like that now? PLease help!!

Re: Rebuilt Tranny question

Ask him if he did any modification to the valve body. VB recallibration usually explains hard shifts, I doubt tranny cooler has anything to with it.

Will do.. would that be very harmful to the transmission if it were to stay that way? Would it be the same as having a "shift kit" ?

Valve body recallibration (common names are VB mod or Level 10 upgrade), if done right makes the tranny shifts faster and harder. It also prolongs the life of your tranny because it doesn't slip anymore.
I was considering it for my auto but changed my mind because I'm getting a CL-S this spring.

SWEET! Congrats on the CL-S man. Would the same thing occur if there is just too much built up pressure in the line? Im not real familiar with Transmission technical stuff, but thats something that someone else told me. If that could be the case, would that harm the trans at all? I still t driven it my self, but he described it as being pretty harsh.

That might be a possibility, but I think you should go and just talk to the guy. Drive your car with him and ask him to explain what was done. Is that your local mechanic or some tranny shop?

He is a mechanic for a local Toyota dealership that works on imports on the side also. Is at his own personal shop. Guess I'll have to do what you said and ride WITH him. Thanks for the help man! Much appreciated.

No problem man, I hope everything works out. From my experience, mechanics that work at the dealership and also keep their own shops are very good. Good luck.
