the rear deck is where the middle brake light and our 6x9 speakers reside on. I want that removed. I know somebody tried removing it. I'm sure someone has more info on it.

You can certainly remove it. I'm not following why you'd want it gone permanently though.

Because I'm sick of the rattles that are coming from it. Plus, without the rear deck, I would get more bass coming in the car.

i've had mine out several times. it's pretty easy to do.

i completely removed my 3rd brake light, but you can't even tell.

the only downside is the rear deck area looks like shit w/o the trim panel. i suggest taking it out and using some adhesive back foam to stop the rattles.

also, some of the rattles that seem to come from the rear deck actually come from the rear of the headliner.

my car is at the dealer now getting some major rattle fixes done.

I put dynamat on the rear deck and cross members, padded everywhere the 3rd brake light makes contact (using black hobby foam). No more rattles, hums, or vibrations. Better bass.

However, the paper cover on the stock Bose speakers does resonate.

Seems to me like the bass would be better produced with the deck in place. Permanent removal of the deck would alter the trunk's resonance profile, which would ultimately change the quality of the bass sound.

Bass is more of a transmitted sound than a directly heard sound. It comes through the air, of course, but also through just about everything else: floor, seats, etc. That's especially true for the subsonic frequencies (below 20Hz). By putting the bass in the trunk, you give it a relatively small chamber of air to compress and decompress, which then serves to transmit the bass to your whole car through the floor, walls, etc.

I could be way off here, but that's what I recall from what I learned years ago about the physics of sound, especially low frequencies.

I removed my rear parcel shelf when I had my windows tinted back in April last year.
It’s not hard at all.

I had full instruction and photos in the thread, but I can’t find the link.
The SEARCH function isn’t working too well right now for some reason.

you need to remove the backseat in order to get the rear deck out...start by ripping up on the seat cushions, then unbolt the center console thing, there are 4 bolts, then there is one bolt on each lower-outside edge of the seat back, unbolt and pull up on seat back and remove, then you need to take off the plasitc panels on the pillars between the small side windows and the rear window. then you can pop all the rivets up on the rear deck, then you have to unbolt the 3rd brake light from inside the trunk, then you are done....and it does look like shit....dont know how you could make it look decent without it.

I already have dynamat and the weatherstripper there. I think I just need to do a better job with the dynamar and stripping.
