realistic price

Hi all,

Been a while since I have commented on the board. Longtime lurker here. I wanted some realistic answers. I am looking to sell my 03 6spd and just wondering really what can I get for it? I live in Nebraska, summertime is about here and people are going to be buying cars very soon if not already. I owe just under 8k on my 03. Question is, will I be able to get out from my loan? It is getting quite costly for a car that I only drive occasionally anymore.

The details;
-75k miles
-headers and CAI, have the lightweight pulley just not installed (still have all original parts as well)
-ABP
-6 spd
-Tires have about 10k (need rotated, which I will do) Toyo Proxies 4

It was daily driven for 3 and a half of the 4 years I have owned. Small nickle size dent on driver fender (likely door ding). Also the bumper is somewhat rough on the bottom front. Would need replacing if you were to call the car excellent condition. Other than that, I cannot think of much more. Can you experts give me some insight?

you should be able to get out even or a slight profit. I'd think $8k-8500 is fair, $9K if you're lucky.

You should break even. However may be a tough sell. It's just not a popular car, & the stick actually hurts your ability to sell it. Not many regular non enthusiast drivers want to drive a stick car these days.
Oh yeah & you have gas prices to deal with.

I just picked up an 03 CLS 6spd in beautiful shape with just a hair under 100k miles for $8000. It was a screaming deal and I love it so far. With 25k less miles I'd think you could get $8500-$9500. People on Ebay are trying to sell similar cars with 125k-150k at the $9000 range.

Check KBB.org, that should give you a little ideal.

yeah, i had 2 people offer me $8k on mine recently and i have 132k miles on mine, but it is pretty clean and all the maintenance has been done to it.
kbb says $7175 private party and $5425 trade in value in my area..
it is a desireable car to have around here though, so maybe thats why i had higher offers

I'm in Nebraska as well, and I purchased my Auto CL-S '02 with 74k back in Jan '11. The dealership was asking $12500 (I did not pay near that much as an employee discount) but there were at least 5-10 interested buyers within the first few days. I would assume a manual could be a good $9500 if not more. I plan on putting mine up for $11000 and hope for the best in the next few months. But I have all the service records from Acura of Omaha from the original owner and a brand new transmission with a warranty.

Wow, sounds like my car with a 6 speed... if you didn't live in Nebraska, I'd snatch it up. If you're willing to wait it out and find a buyer who knows about these cars, then I'm sure you could get a good deal.

It's only worth about $4000, so I'll give you $5000 and we call it a day

I looked for a while for a 6-speed CL-S here in Ohio, and the asking price for one seems to be ~$8k private party.
The two best deals on craigslist are $7400 for one with 90k stock that has a headlight out and the window won't move, and $7950 for one with 117k stock

Those are both asking prices, so I'd imagine that in Ohio you can get a stock CLS6 for slightly less than 8k. With the right buyer, $8500 or so shouldn't be a problem for yours.

Where do you live? That could be a factor that affects your price. I know in Ohio, they seem to be much cheaper than they are in Nebraska.

In Lincoln, the capitol city. Thanks all for your replies. I was gonna start out with 10k OBO sounds reasonable with what you all are telling me. Gives me some haggle room with potential buyers.

I know of KBB.com but this is what they say. I know it was lower than this at one time. How come my zip code is higher in value on this car?
BLUE BOOK® PRIVATE PARTY VALUE

Condition Value

Excellent $10,925
Good $10,275
Fair $9,225

Also, just wondering. I am the guy who pays for what I want. Knowing that these 6spd's were rare I paid 15k for her back in 2007 with 50k miles. I have only put on 25k miles so she has been my baby. Daily driven but well cared for. Reason I still owe so much is that I carried over my last loan and I definitely do not ever want to do that again.

What they're asking for on eBay vs what they're actually getting are two different things. I think you're getting hosed if you're paying for much for this car since that price is way over book value even in excellent condition.

The people that are looking for a 6-speed are also likely to think of the cash they're gonna have to drop on the 105k service just a couple years down the road so they may try to use that to bargain the price down.

If you're just selling it locally, chances are most people won't really appreciate the mods. If I were in your shoes, I would sell the headers, pulley, and CAI in the BM, and sell the car as stock.
