A real noob thing happend today!

Took my CL-S for a ride around the block today...car was warmed up and was driving real nice. Had my dad in the passenger seat and decided to let it rip down a straight rode with 0% traffic lol

Now, the car has Comptech headers and a AEM coldair. So without using the tiptronic i gave it all the way to 5500RPM and let it shift...not only did it shift into 2nd, the front left tire chirped so hard it left rubber and i did have the traction control off.

Now is this a normal thing or can i never do it again?

Ive punched this car before and it never did it...

let me know if this is normal or just a fluke.

Its a 2001 BTW

there may have been some grit on the road which will decrease traction.

Or it could just be a fluke who knows

yea if u chirp the tires going from 1st to second i think it's more related to the trans not shifting smooth.

com to think of it, it only happened to my car with the old michelin MXM4 tires on which had 30% tread and i was on my original trans then.

I chirped the tires before even getting headers back then.... now it's not noticeable. maybe because the tires don't chirp cause they are new... but even going all the way up to 7 when shifting into 2nd, I still cannot make it chirp.

And the car pulls HARD.. so it not because my car is underpowered

every now and then, auto's will chirp in second, but really depends on conditions, road, temperature.

there's a road here locally where u can probably make an 86 auto civic chirp in second gear for a couple of seconds.

mine loses traction reaching 4k rpm.

Ive chirped second in an auto before, but the conditions have to be just right to do it. I chirp third now though, so I can understand your excitement

I seen videos of a CL-6 destroying 2nd gear... I feel bad for the tires. It makes perfect sense you can peel through that gear. it's WAY shorter than the auto 2nd gear, u got more WHP due to the manual trans, and u can pop the clutch and get those tires to break loose extremely easy.

the things i'd do if I have a cl-6

as for the auto:

i never said the trans is on it's way out if u can chirp when u shift... I'm just saying the engagement is obviously rougher and that is what leads to the tires breaking loose.

many things can attribute to it.... turning the wheel a bit while WOT may induce wheel slippage, trans engaging roughly, debris on the ground, or simple fluke... all of the above can lead to the wheels chirping.

I think there is a general misconception that if the tires chirp that's is faster than if it were not to chirp. I do not think this is the case.

the wheel chirp is due to trans engagment and not overall power.

also why ppl with stock motors can chirp their tires more than people such as myself with many mods.

so I'd have to say it's not power related per se

lol sall good I'm keeping my car. it's problemless..

and I don't feel like getting a whole new car with a whole new set of issues.

I got everything the way i want it on my CL I got now so i'm just fine.

And I got tickets up the yin yans so i couldn't afford to get another ticket which a CL-6 is much more likely to get me :-)
