Ran a CL, what do they run and what kinda power?

dont know much about these cars. anyway, was driving today and this guy in a CL 3.2 type-S just floored it when i got to his bumper and i was driving normal on a 4 lane road. didnt think much of it. i caught back up after he slowed down and he did it again but just blipped the throttle. didnt really want to get on the car cause it was 2 degrees out today (-20 with wind chill) but i said whatever, and got to his rear door and he floored it again. so i followed suite for the hell of it since i never seen one run before. after i down shifted i caught up pretty quick and pulled about 4 cars on him before i let up around 112. looked/sounded to have some kind of exhaust and possibly a CAI intake on it, not sure. for all i know it coulda been stock. what kinda power do these cars have and what do they run? if it was stock its was pretty quick i thought, even if it was lightly modded still a pretty quick car.

(i copied and fixed this from the TL forum, cause i was mistaken on model at first)

According to Acura, the Acura CL type S has 260 hp @ 6100 rpm and 232 lb.-ft. @ 3500-5500 rpm

im pretty curious on how you pulled 4 cars on a cl-s, are you sure it was a type-s if you're not even sure if it was a CL or TL?

What the hell you come in here saying you instantly pulled 4 cars on a CL and you didn't even mention what you drive? it better be boosted or something.

yes, cause all i remember was the 3.2 type-s badge on the trunk. was a medium blue color, silver rims

what does it matter what i drive. i didnt come here bashing the car. quite opposite i said the car was pretty quick, and if it was stock ,was a nice car. i never said i *instantly* pulled on him. i did pull him at a steady pace. if you read through the other post you'd see it was 4 cars from 50ish-110ish. and btw it is boosted, if that really means anything. like anything N/A couldnt beat a car with 260hp. its a nice car but its not god's gift to cars

hey dont take anything personally, this forum is known to defend ANY claim like it was the person's child...please dont start anything or this will go on for about 10 pages. lol i kid you not...well nice run then, and thanks for the respect of our cars...now please move on...

CAI are common and maybe headers...so stock is 195-200WHEEL hp, im thinking from what you said it had about 220/230WHEEL hp with a couple popular bolt ons from the sight [H/CAI]...we also weigh in anywhere from 3500-3800lbs. [if the guy ran you, he def had something]

hope that answers w/e you came here to find!

It is possible that cars do run quicker than 14's and can pull CL-S's by four cars. Ask me how I know...

so i read some quick stats on the GTP b/c i was curious...it seems you are really similiar stock with 260HP, from what i saw at a glance. we have low torque [a fact], not sure what your torque is plus you say you're boosted with bolt ons, so yes maybe you ran on him, but knowing it was exactly 4 car lengths while driving 100m.p.h. is hard to say...again, good run.

So the guy isn't allowed to come in here and post a kill? The guy just wants to know what he beat, quit crying... I love CL-S's, in fact I'm searching for one very hard right now. Big deal, one got beat.

I can't read? Why would you come in here and tell a guy to move on, because he posted a kill? What you should have done is come in here, post up the specs of a CL-S and be done, not tell this guy to leave because he beat a car similar to yours...

that was about it. i probably wont be stopping by much but to maybe check this thread later.

the car stock is 240hp/280tq im working on tuning the car right now so power is a little down cause its not a real winter friendly tune. should be in the 300hp/340tq range give or take some. i can care less about a internet bickering match, i can usually hold my own but i can get kinda vulgar if they wanna play that game. it dont bother me much at all. but i dont choose to fill a board/thread with relentless garbage unless provoked.

thanks all that have helped out with the questions.

too far away from both of you. northern Illinois, bout a hour north of chicago, 10min south of wisconsin.

gc86 - what does your car run?

and if they gtp isnt fast enough, which is usually the case. i gotta keep it reliable cause its the DD, i have the SS to play around with. although that still wont be fast enough for me it should do well with the parts i have.

Actually, the trap speed would determine how hard he is pulling on the top end, so yes it would matter

lake villa, zion is like 45min south east of me.

im usually up at da grove (drag strip for you non locals) if you make it up there. i work up doing videography. which is why i dont think much of a 13 second car cause nearly everyone i know runs anywhere from 11's to 7's

wow, nice! but yeah you're right, the CL and the GTP are great for speedy road cars, not for dragging [obviously unless its against similiar road cars]. i've heard of the grove...i should maybe head up there in the summer or something, sounds cool.

Actually, it DOES matter what the cars can do in the 1/4. The trap speed is very indicative of your potential to pull another car from a roll. The elapsed time over the 1/4 mile has to do with the car's power and also traction off the line. The speed is more related to power and aero. I can run a 2.1 or a 2.4 sixty-foot time resulting in a 12.6 or 13.0 sec elapsed 1/4 mile time. The interesting thing is that both runs would have a 116mph trap speed. Even though your typical Subaru STI can run a 13.0 sec elapsed 1/4 time, they only trap 102-104ish. From a roll, the car trapping 116 would put a hurtin' on the 104mph car.

From my track experience, I've actually found that one tenth gained in the 60 foot time, usually leads to two tenths on the big end. Also, for me, the better 60 foot I get(the more traction), usually the lower my trap speed is, which makes sense, because the tires aren't spinning as much. I've trapped as high as 102 back when the mustang was stock, but my best e.t. run, I actually only trapped 98.9.

14.485 @ 98.30 with a 2.300 60ft

Trap good for high 13s but as you can see from the 60ft traction is a big problem. Oh that time is also before a few mods and a proper AFC NEO tuning.

this is true with any car. the slower the 60' the more time your car has to get mph up. in a drag race mph doenst win, but it helps. we had a guy this past year running our heads up class who would out mph everybody. most people ran 150-165mph where he ran as good as 177 through the traps. the car was sick on 1 stage of nitrous, he would leave soft then reel everybody in and run past them.

with that time you wouldnt hang, ive got that covered by more than 6 tenths. being its more modded now it would probably be a good race unless you put a power adder on the car or did internal work. and like i said, trap isnt worth anythign if you cant run the number to match it. mph gives you a idea of hp and car potential. if you dead hooked your car, lets say to a 1.8 60' the car would run in the 14.0's range but isnt gonna pick up any mph, cause most of your mph was gained in your short time previously. based on that time the car will probably run in the 96mph area
