Raise your hand if you hate those new Mustang GTs
Alright, At 260HP and about 310 lbs of torque (stock) I’ve got to respect ‘em , but with that size engine, Ford should have pushed double the HP (I know any import with that size engine would have). Now to the point … with my first generation 3.0 CL I cant seem to beat ‘em off the line … I can thank my 4 speed auto for that. Can I get some pointers or something on how to beat these pen*s envy muscle heads …. Oh yeah, I HATE MUSTANGS!!

HP per Liter(dyno numbers only, no 20+% drivtrain loss grossup BS):
CLS (Stock) 200 hp/3.2 L = 62.5
GT (Stock) 230 hp/4.6 L = 50.0
Sure the CLS has a better hp per liter number, but you expect the Mustang to have DOUBLE its output, 460 to the wheels??? If there were an easy way to calculate average horsepower through the RPM band on a per liter basis, I would imagine the numbers would be much closer than on the peak-only basis.
Go ahead and start your list of imports that put out 100 hp/L at that displacement (or any displacement for that matter).
Pointers? Dunno...watch what you type because you never know who'll read it and respond?

haha, i like my CLS better, but GT mustangs are fun to drive. the torque is good times!!! i think they are good cars, and they will blow a CLS outta of the water. i have beat a couple GTs....but that was because the driver must have sucked with the clutch

I took a GT 2001 CONV STANG this past weekend on the highway, it was a 5spd. We ran from 50-110 when I let off due to 4th gear! hehehe. Anyways I only got 1/2 a car on him each run. It was 4 runs total.

In the performance world there are tools known a dynos that measure actual horsepower and torque of a vehicle. Post a question in Car Talk and other enthusiasts such as myself will explain it to you.

And yes, I have heard of the 3.0 CL, I chose the CLS in my comparison b/c it worked more toward your favor and wanted to give your angle a chance.
I do know what I am talking about, especially when it comes to Mustangs. I might not know everything about Acuras/Imports, nut as an enthusiast I frequent this and other sites in order to learn more. I try not to step on toes here, but the Racing Stories Forum is a bit lighter mood and I avail myself of the opportunity for freindly smack talk...no harm no foul. More seasoned members realize this.

dayem, is this fued over? i can see that blk CLs is just backin up family (cars i mean) but some people are aight like Pull_T, he doesn't really BS, n i've seen AC post a lot without BSin, think he drives a 540 if i remember correctly, n yea the new stangs are ugly cept the saleen, n cobra... i'd prefer the model before the current one now...hell if i had a choice i'd go with a Camaro SS, or a vette but that's not in the same price range...

i actually happen to like mustangs. they r one of da only american cars dat i like. i think when pull_t said 200 hp, he meant to da wheel not da crank. so he's correct. a mustang gt or 5.0 will beat a cl-s off da line mainly cuz its rear-wheel. try racing one on da freeway, it'll b a different story. no mustang 4.6 or 5.0 has even come close to me on da freeway. i thank da v-tec for dat, it does wonders! but if u talking bout a cobra, they' r above da cl-s' league. mad respect to cobras and saleens!

What is the big deal?
Most of this boils down to envy... If you bought the CL because you liked its style and relatively good performance, then there shouldn't be any of this talk about Mustangs. If you bought the CL in the hopes of smoking muscle cars, then I understand where all this hate comes from. I see it on every sporty car forum I go to... Mustangs will disrespect Camaro owners because they get beat by them, Civic owners rag on everything else cause they get beat by everything else, etc.
If you notice, the more seasoned folks appreciate their cars for what they are and not what they beat and cannot beat.
I have a 110HP Celica as a daily driver and I love that car for its handling and style. I love my Mustang for its torque and mean looks. I love my buddy's CL-S because it's an Auto and offers performance equal of that of my old 5.0L Mustang AND it pampers my behind like nothing else.
If people continue this ranting and raving on forums, they eventually take these feelings to the road and it often manifests itself into road rage... that's rediculous.
Learn to love your car for what it is and be a little more aware of the fact that it doesn't matter what you drive, there's always someone out there that can and will blow the doors off your car.
I didn't buy my Mustang to smoke CL's and TL's or Camaro SS's. I bought it cause it was very affordable $23K and offers 302lbs./ft. of torque AND it was time to give up the ole' 5.0L. Contrary to popular belief, Mustangs are indeed reliable and easily go 150K miles before anything has to be done to the engine - and this is with constant throttle mashings and clutch rammings.
Remember, for every stupid Mustang driver out there I can find you an equally stupid CL-S driver on the road. Granted, I don't find as many CL-S idiots out there, but that's because they're not as prevalant as a Mustang. It's not the car folks, it's the driver and the attitude he/she carries while driving.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the new GT's have a much broader torque curve than a CL-S and it's why they're so hard to beat even though they make the same peak horsepower. Mustangs are very easy to launch contrary to what others may think, or hear. No need to rev the car out of the whole if you're on radials... engage the clutch and ram the gas from idle.
On the freeway, I haven't seen a CL-S keep up with me yet and I've been as high as an indicated 150-mph in that vehicle. However, miss a shift, and the CL-S is all over a Mustang's ass - I learned this against a stock 5.0L when I missed 3rd.
I've also learned that driving a 4.6L Mustang is much different from a 5.0L and people nevr quite learn when they switch from one to the other and that's why they get beat by Civic's, lol.
There's my rant as a newbie... why am I hear? My buddy has a CL-S and suggested I browse the sight... drive safe everyone!
