Okay, this is a newbie question that has probably been asked before, but my attemps at searching haven't revealed anything (this could possibly be since it's 3am here)

I was wondering if anyone new the timeline behind the acura bose radio system that appeared in the 2nd generation CL and TL models. What models will a 2001 CL bose radio headunit (6cd/cassette, no subwoofer) that uses the factory amplifier fit? I've seen installation instructions for the 99-02 CL and TL's, which leads me to believe that any of these radios are interchangeable among models. Did Acura make a switch in 2003 with both cars? I also remember hearing that the 2003 TL (or perhaps earlier?) had a subwoofer. Are the TL and CL models interchangeable?

I'm a bit confused as to what happened between model years with the radios, and which radios work in which cars between the 99-03 era. Thanks so much for any help!!

All TL's had a sub. The CL's did not. Any Bose radio will will fit either car 01-03. However I'm not sure if the TL will work in a CL, & CL in a TL because of the sub.

Do know any 01-03 CL is interchangable.
Any 01-03 TL is interchangable.

 

TL and CL radios are not interchangeable.

As fuzzy mentioned:

TL had a subwoofer
CL has front tweeters


The 2nd gen CL radios are all the same (6-disk in-dash changers)
The TL had two models, single disk and 6-disk in-dash. Not sure when they changed to the 6-disk but my 99 has a single disk player.

 

Thank you so much - exactly the information I was looking for. I wonder why they designed the two audio systems differently during the same time span, considering all of the other similarities between the two cars. I know many people were disappointed with the CL's given the lack of bass.

Does the presence of a Nav system make any difference in swapping out radios? I have not read anything to that effect, so I assume that a regular CL radio in a non-nav system will work fine when retrofitted into one with a nav system?
